Summary:
The Server is at the center of delivering a purpose drive experience for our residents and guests. The Server provides prompt and courteous service for all residents and guests while maintaining a clean and well stocked dining room. The Server preps the dining room before meals are served, serve meals and general meal clean up all while following established policies and procedures.
It is the duty of all employees to promote and support a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Commits to the Vincentian Collaborative System (VCS) mission to nurture and sustain a ministry of compassionate care that preserves the human dignity of persons within a diverse and changing society.
2. Upholds and promotes the VCS values of spirituality, compassion, quality, dignity, collaboration, advocacy and stewardship.
3. Promotes and supports a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.
4. Adheres to all facility and department work rules, policies and procedures.
5. Provide excellent resident and guest engagement by helping to create a fun and caring environment for residents and their guest.
6. Take resident and guest orders in an accurate, professional, courteous, and efficient manner.
7. Greet and assist residents and guests in a professional, friendly, and efficient manner.
8. Clean and set tables for each meal and arranging silverware, plates and cups and/or glasses. Maintain clean environment in the dining room, including sweeping and mopping floors between meal service times.
9. Serves food according to established menu, ensuring proper plating and presentation.
10. Provide beverage service such as water, iced tea, juices, milk and coffee/tea
11. Refill sale, pepper, and sugar bowls prior to each meal, sanitizing the shakers and sugar bowls between meal service.
12. Removes dirty dishes and conducts bussing duties in the service area and returns to the kitchen for dishwashing.
13. Restock the dining room with utensils, napkins, glasses, cups, tablecloths, table decorations and food such as butter, crackers, bread and all condiments.
14. Report any broken equipment or tableware to supervisor.
15. Understand sit-down service and proper serving techniques.
16. Assists in the cleanup of spills.
17. Effectively resolves any customer issues and report resolution.
18. Acts in compliance with federal and state sanitary regulations as well as facility infection control guidelines and dietary policies and procedures.
19. Assists with storage and inventory of food supply and cleanliness of storage areas.
20. Provides the front of the house coordinator with a list of pantry and other items to be ordered.
21. Attends in-service training sessions as assigned.
22. Maintains a clean and hazard-free work areas.
23. Participates in department/facility meetings, as required.
24. Performs dishwashing/cleaning procedures in accordance with Department of Health and facility standards.
25. Completes kitchen and dining room cleaning assignments.
26. Disposes of food and waste in accordance with established policies.
27. Follows established Infection Control Precautions.
28. Performs all other duties assigned.
Education/Experience:
1. Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions and perform simple mathematical calculations required.
2. High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
3. One year experience as a server or related field preferred.
4. Exceptional customer service skills.
Work Environment:
Employees of a long-term or personal care facility work in a resident care environment that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Employees can be expected to be exposed to unpleasant odors and may encounter physically or verbally aggressive residents.
Working conditions include normal indoor temperatures. There may also be times when employees perform duties outdoors. Depending on the season, outdoor temperatures will vary.
Employees may come into contact with residents who have infectious diseases or to resident bodily fluids or blood. In addition, employees may come into contact with hazardous materials and facility equipment.
