Job DescriptionJob SummaryThe Technical Support - Mechanical Specialist III serves as a lead member of the Vector rotating team with responsibility to ensure mechanical and structural systems onboard Valaris rigs are fit for purpose and being properly maintained. This is accomplished through conducting audits, coaching and evaluating offshore mechanical personnel, and by providing high-level direction during major downtime events, Between Well Maintenance (BWM), Special Periodic Surveys (SPS) and shipyard upgrades.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesConducts audits as required by VMS, including OAP and rig condition assessments or other audits requested by rig management to optimize rig performance and ensures compliance with Valaris, industry and contractual standards.Coaches Vector team and offshore crew as necessary. Evaluates personnel and makes recommendations to rig management regarding maintenance personnel decisions.Provides trouble-shooting support to the field on equipment issues, either remotely or onsite. Support can be direct (performed by -Technical Support - Mechanical Specialist II) or indirect (guidance given to Vector teams or rig-based maintenance personnel.)Contacts OEM's and vendors to support trouble-shooting efforts.Supports investigation of downtime incidents by participating in root cause analyses.Visits rigs to support extended downtime repairs and regulatory inspections to ensure successful outcomes.Provides direct and indirect support to rigs for projects and maintenance backlog during between well intervals.Assists in shipyard work scope execution with other members of the field support group, as required.Monitors repairs and rebuilds of capital spares to ensure they are performed properly, safely, and economically.Builds relationships with manufacturers and suppliers and participates in facility, workshop, and service quality audits.Conducts rig condition assessment surveys and provides feedback on rig condition and shipyard WBS preparation.Helps develop and implement Work Instructions and prepares risk assessments as required.Provides direction to facilitate decisions on priorities of repairs and preventative maintenance activities.Oversees the data quality recorded in the Preventative Maintenance System (PMS.)Helps and facilitates rig to keep rig drawings updated.Through observations of the PMS job plans and PM schedule, proposes improvements or corrections as needed of maintenance procedures and practices.Reviews equipment and spare parts inventories to ensure adequate and accurate inventory. Provides assistance in investigating and resolving discrepancies.Provides assistance as needed in reviewing requisitions for spare parts, tools, and materials.Actively leads and participates in all company HSE processes and procedures.QualificationsAssociates degree or higher in Mechanical Technologies or related field.Minimum 7 years of experience as an FSS-Mechanical or Chief Mechanic supporting offshore drilling rigs.Valid passport.ISN Certification for all Operators.Skills & ExperienceStrong hands-on experience maintaining hydraulic and pneumatic drilling equipment, including Top Drives, Drawworks, Pipe Handling & Racking Systems, etc., including the ability to direct and perform overhauls, major repairs and annual inspections.Strong hands-on experience with Caterpillar and EMD engines, including the ability to direct and perform overhauls and major repairs with minimal onsite vendor support.Must possess working experience reading and interpreting hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical drawings.OEM training on drilling equipment such as Top Drives, Drawworks and Pipe Handling & Racking systems, and Caterpillar or EMD engines.Standard offshore survival and medical certificates required in most global jurisdictions, such as BOSIET.Must be Highly Self Motivated and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.Strong verbal and written communication skills required.Ability to interact with individuals in a cross-cultural environment.Strong team orientation with strong leadership and employee development skills.About UsAt Valaris, our core purpose is to provide responsible solutions that deliver energy to the world.
