UWM is Hiring a Principal Engineer Near Pontiac, MI

THE GIG

The Principal Engineer role combines the technical skills of an engineer with the organizational and motivation skills of a leader to provide technical direction to a team of administrators and engineers. The Principal Engineer will understand the technical aspects of their domain, connect projects to business initiative, and drive their team forward to contribute to the success of the company.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Working closely with senior leadership and architects to define quality, performance, and other standards for our application suite. 
  • Ensuring compliance to our policies and procedures by creating auditing strategies and conducting periodic evaluations of our technology. 
  • Creating actionable recommendations for leadership consumption that will improve our application health posture 
  • Providing technical advice, training, and hands on remediation efforts for any deficiencies discovered in our application health assessments. 
  • Assisting with the execution of projects by combining industry best practices, business requirements and knowledge of the team’s skillset into actionable solutions. 
  • Serving as a conduit for feedback and direction between engineers, leadership, project managers and other stakeholders to remove roadblocks and keep projects on target. 
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and ensure that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them 
  • Sharing expertise and insights with other engineers through both mentorship and creation of governance standards. 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Must Have Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in application development, architecture, or leadership. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in science, engineering, or management, or equivalent experience. 
  • Expertise in application development, deployment tools, and/or quality assurance tools. 
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic 
  • Comfortable in a fast-moving environment 
  • Ability to multitask and adapt 
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn 
  • Experience mentoring other team members 

Nice to Have Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience leading a team of application developers 
  • Experience providing evidence of compliance with federal regulations (e.g. SOX) 
  • Experience with containerized applications 
  • Previous experience in the financial sector a plus
