MISSION

USTA Mid-Atlantic is seeking a full-time Director of Marketing and Communications who will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communications strategies to enhance our brand's visibility, reputation, and engagement with key stakeholders. You will set and guide the strategy for all communications, website and public relations messages and collateral to advance our organization’s mission. This position will report to the COO and work closely with the CEO and other senior leaders on a variety of strategic initiatives. You will lead a team of communications and marketing professionals to work cross departmentally and with our National office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

MARKETING

  • Oversee the development and implementation of strategic marketing plans to drive USTA Mid-Atlantic programs and services and strategic plan objectives.
  • Oversee all aspects of marketing campaigns, including budgeting, timeline management, and performance tracking.
  • Create and drive comprehensive marketing calendars to maximize effectiveness of strategies and plans. 
  • Oversee brand implementation and ensure consistency across all marketing channels.
  • Work with Development team to strategize on partnership proposals and deliverables
  • Oversee and drive digital marketing, including SEO, SEM, email marketing, paid and organic social media to ensure efforts are effective.
  • Measure and analyze the effectiveness of marketing initiatives, and adjust strategies as needed to optimize results.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams, including program services, development, and executive leadership to ensure consistent messaging and alignment across all marketing and communications channels.
  • Serve as Section liaison to National Marketing/Section marketing to collaborate on campaigns and effectively interpret and deliver national initiatives as appropriate for the Section.

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Serve as the main point of contact for the organization for all external communications.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of compelling content across various channels, including press releases, blog posts, social media, website content, graphics, news articles, videos and marketing materials.
  • Ensure consistent messaging throughout all departments that represents all aspects of the organization, in particular our philanthropic language.
  • Support fundraising efforts by helping to identify main groups and audiences and developing a communication plan to achieve goals as established.
  • Prepare and support communications for leadership and staff for external facing speeches, presentations, workshops, etc.
  • Ensure that written outputs adhere to appropriate editorial standards.
  • Audit all social and digital platforms to ensure maximum exposure and delivery and strategize on best use.
  • Ensure expanding presence across key social media channels.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

  • Develop and implement strategic public relations plans that communicate our philanthropic mission and vision to enhance the company's brand visibility, influence public narratives, and to demonstrate thought leadership.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, influencers, and other external stakeholders to secure media coverage and amplify our brand's messaging.
  • Proactively identify media opportunities and secure coverage in top-tier publications, websites, and broadcast outlets.
  • In collaboration with CEO and COO, serve as a spokesperson for the company, representing our brand and communicating key messages to the media, industry partners, investors, and other stakeholders.
  • Create compelling press releases, media pitches, and other written materials to effectively communicate key messages and company news.
  • Monitor media coverage and industry trends, and provide regular reports and insights to internal stakeholders.
  • Lead crisis communication efforts and develop strategies to effectively manage and mitigate reputational risks.
  • Seek opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising.
  • Ensure alignment and consistency in messaging and branding efforts in marketing, social media, and other departmental communications.

EVENTS

  • Oversee marketing and communication plans for special events. 
  • Oversee and maintain brand integrity at events and ensure marketing of programs, services and objectives at events to support growth. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experienced marketing & communications professional: An individual with a proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing campaigns and communication plans that drive business results. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills and follow-up:Someone who is highly organized with excellent project management skills, including strong attention to detail, the ability to conduct and coordinate multiple tasks under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively. 
  • Strong leadership skills: Someonewith the ability to effectively manage and mentor a team. Ability to inspire and motivate others, promoting a culture of trust, respect, and accountability. Strong conflict resolution and emotional intelligence skills, with a focus on fostering constructive dialogue and collaboration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related marketing, communications, and/or public relations fields required.
  • Master’s Degree in related marketing, communications, and/or public relations fields preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience of 5-10 years in the field of marketing, communications, and /or public relations required with a deep understanding of marketing principles, including branding, positioning, and target audience segmentation.
  • Experience developing and executing multi-channel marketing campaigns required.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring a team
  • Basic understanding of tennis is preferred.
  • Proficiency with common operating systems, such as Windows, Google Suite, and software as well as data analysis experience. Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms, such as Google Analytics, Feathr, Constant Contact, Adobe Campaign Manager, Tableau, and social media management tools (Hootsuite); such as, creative cloud tools such as Adobe Creative suite and Canva, CRMs such as Adobe Experience Manager and/or Wordpress. 
  • Must be able to professionally handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. 
  • Physical Requirements of the Job: Spend frequent time making repetitive motions; spend frequent time sitting, standing and walking; spend frequent time using your hands to handle, reach, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Lifting up to 25lbs with or without assistance.

DIRECTOR OF MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS FAQ’S

Who will the Director of Marketing & Communications be working with?

The Director of Marketing & Communications will be reporting to Beth Twomey, Chief Operating Officer. This position will work closely with the CEO and other senior leaders on a variety of strategic initiatives. You will lead a team of communications and marketing professionals to work cross departmentally and with our National office.

How much does this position pay? How many hours is considered FT? What type of benefits do you offer? 

This position is exempt and paid between $105,000.00 to $125,000.00 annually. Compensation is commensurate with experience. Bonus eligibility is determined annually. Full-time employees are scheduled to work a minimum of 35 hours per week. May need to work more hours to complete required job duties.

Is your team currently remote? Will this stay remote long term?We do have an office in Herndon VA; however, we are operating remotely for the most part. This role can be based anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic region of MD, DC, VA & WV area. This person would need to travel for the job as follows:

  • To attend any scheduled meetings in the Herndon, VA office as required.
  • To attend sectional and/or national meetings/conferences/workshops, as needed. 
  • This person will need to attend all staff meetings in the Herndon, VA office or offsite location as required. We have two to three staff meetings a year.

What does the hiring process consist of?

  • Apply- We will be accepting applications Wednesday 3/6/24 through Friday 3/22/24. This may be extended depending on the number of applicants we receive.
  • Virtual Screening Interviewswill be scheduled with the HR Department. Interviews are typically 30-45 minutes.
  • Second Virtual Interviewswill be scheduled with the Chief Operating Officer and the Chief Executive Officer, selected based on the screening interview. This interview is typically 1 hour in length.
  • Final Offer will be made by HR. Start date will be determined by mutual agreement and orientation will be scheduled once background check results are received.
  • Expected Start Date: This entire process from the date the posting ends to date an offer is made can take up to 3 – 6 weeks. Expected start date is Monday, April 15, 2024.
