Public Interest Registry is Hiring a Digital Marketing & Communications Intern Near Reston, VA

The PIR marketing group is focused on digital and brand activities to support our multiple brands - PIR, .ORG and the DNS Abuse Institute. This internship provides college students with an opportunity for hands-on experience across various facets in gaining work experience in marketing and digital marketing with a non-profit organization. Our Reston-based Marketing team is seeking an intern to support and help with the planning and execution of programs for the DNS Abuse Institute to include branding activity, content development and planning and execution of a recognition program. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Project(s)

The DNS Abuse Institute would like to develop a recognition program for registries that have engaged and made improvements in reducing their instances of DNS abuse. The recognition program may include development of target lists, producing success case stories and an awards program. 

•Tasks may include the following:

•Create plans and roadmap for recognition program.

•Write and edit compelling customer and success stories. 

•Plan and execute brand extension programs.

•Attend meetings and assist with communications as needed.

•Support social media content creation and management. 

•Assist in creating content for social media including copy, graphics, and video.

Additional Responsibilities

Intern may help with marketing activity across our multiple brands and digital platforms with graphics, video, website updates and social engagement - and some digital and in-person event planning and execution.

Learning Objectives

The internship will provide students with hands-on experience in project management, event planning, digital marketing, and marketing communications. 

Supervision Received and Exercised

Position works under direct supervision of the Senior Director, Marketing.

Preferred Skills, Qualifications and Other Requirements

●Ability to work 40 hours per week throughout the term of the internship on a hybrid location basis with two days per week (typically Tuesdays and Thursdays) in our Reston, VA office and the remaining hours per week remotely.

●Enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university with a focus in marketing studies, a strong Interest in digital marketing and marketing communications.

●As part of the interview process, candidates will submit a professional writing sample such as a blog, press release, news article, social posts, or other significant work sample to show demonstrated excellence in written communication skills.

●Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.

●Skills in one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff. 

●Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion. 

●Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.

●Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Canva and WordPress. Knowledge of social media content creation for X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook. Knowledge of social media management platforms including Sprinklr, Hootsuite, etc.

●Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. This position is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship or CPT Authorization.
