POSITION SUMMARY

The SR Manager, Retail provides strategic direction and vision for the growth and expansion of the USA Lacrosse and National Teams brands for USA Lacrosse's retail business. You will get to identify and explore licensing opportunities to maximize revenue and increase brand recognition. This critical role provides oversight and management of all USA Lacrosse retail sales, including the e-commerce store, USA Lacrosse HQ onsite store, and our retail presence at events (i.e., sanctioned tournament, USA Lacrosse sponsored events, etc.). The SR Manager, Retail establishes new partnerships and fosters relationships with existing partners to maximize USA Lacrosse's retail business, including scope and reach, to provide a strong retail presence to represent the USA Lacrosse and National Teams brands, enhancing brand recognition, extending reach, and ensuring an excellent customer experience with each transaction.

A Typical Day Looks Like…

  • Working with the VP, Corporate Partnership Development, identifies department strategy, develops and executes on projects, develops and manages the annual budget for retail, and reports on and activates fulfillment. This includes establishing and ensuring standards for quality, including customer service expectations (i.e., responsive to complaints, comments).
  • Develops and manages operations and processes required to run a retail business with a focus on digital commerce and emphasis on responsiveness, quality, and an excellent customer experience. This includes working collaboratively with all departments to build a true multi-channel strategy and plan, including aligning special promotions with USA Lacrosse events (i.e., National Tournament and events at USA Lacrosse Headquarters, etc.). 
  • Partners with USA Lacrosse and National Teams sponsors and partners to ensure branded products meet partner standards and requirements while providing return on investment (ROI) to partners through USA Lacrosse’s retail channel.
  • Interacts with the IT department to optimize the online customer/user experience and ensures alignment with the overall technology infrastructure.
  • Identifies and researches emerging direct to customer business trends to ensure merchandise being offered align with current trends to provide customers the variety of products and styles they are looking for to optimize revenue opportunity. This includes evaluating technology and innovation solutions to increase revenue and reach.
  • Responsible for merchandising, staffing, and maintaining retail spaces for all USA Lacrosse events, including those run by USA Lacrosse employees and our merchandise partners. This includes providing strategic direction to increase efficiency, introducing new products, channel management optimization, and exploring and pursuing licensing opportunities to align with USA Lacrosse’s strategy and business plan.
  • Develops and maintains sales projections, reporting procedures and database, including regular inventory assessments and forecasts. This includes working with the data team to establish and set metrics and data to be measured and reported on, continuously evaluating the data to ensure USA Lacrosse can make data driven business decisions.
  • Provides regular reports to internal team members on business performance, financials, new initiatives/ideas, and other pertinent issues that may arise. This requires a proactive approach to stay in front of forecasting and potential areas of concern.
  • Monitors the competitive marketplace, including maintaining an understanding of what other national governing bodies, sporting organizations, and similar companies are doing to maximize retail, brand recognition, and licensing opportunities.

Is This You…

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in a retail environment, preferably experience leading the retail/licensing business within a sports organization with an e-commerce platform.
  • Working knowledge of how to leverage social media marketing pertaining to retail sales.
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of online retail sales, including links to store operations, infrastructure, client relations, marketing, promotion, fulfillment, and customer service.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of software’s used for retail, such as Shopify, Salesforce, or comparable database applications used to track, monitor, and report /licensing retail sales with the aptitude to learn new platforms and programs.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and keep data organized to provide insights for actionable sales strategy for revenue generation.
  • Strong relationship building skills with the comfort and ability to lead team meetings, work with retailers, and represent USAL to the public.
  • Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal, written, and verbal.
  • Comfortable managing others and giving directions in an event setting.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to present a professional, customer-focused persona over the phone, in writing, and in person. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a hybrid (in-office/remote) work environment in a fast-paced, “roll up your sleeves” environment to deliver results based on organizational objectives.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and understand how to handle confidential information when necessary.
  • Ability to be flexible with your work schedule, including availability to work nights and weekends and travel based on event needs. This position will require overnight travel for events.
  • Willingness to learn about the sport of lacrosse and appreciate the need to develop, grow, and fuel the growth of the sport with diversity, equity, and inclusion in mind.
  • Ability to align with USA Lacrosse's Mission, Vision, and Values and Strategic Plan to support our initiatives and organizational goals.

Expected Hours of Work

This position is generally expected to work Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm and occasionally requires longer hours or weekend work as related to events and other business needs. This is a hybrid position and works from the headquarters office in Sparks, MD three (3) days a week with the flexibility to work from home two (2) days a week. 

Travel Requirements

Travel may be necessary up to 25% of the time (local, regional, national). Travel would involve the following mode(s) of travel: car, train, or air. Out of area and overnight travel may be expected. This role requires travel to events, weekend work at USAL HQ, as well as regular visits to merchandisers, warehouses, and fulfillment partners.
