Key Business Objectives:
The Project Engineer is responsible for working with Fleet, Account Managers, and Field Operations to provide engineering assistance, re-configuration design, equipment reliability and project management support for USAC owned compression and treating equipment for USAC's customer base. This individual is a committed team player who is detail-oriented, efficient, innovative, professional, and personable. The position requires the ability and desire to fully utilize the technological resources provided, in order to perform all tasks effectively. In a dynamic environment and with minimal supervision, this position will maintain customer relationships both internally and externally by providing technically sound and safe engineering solutions.This position is based in Houston, TX in a traditional office environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Make Ready & Field Support (40%)
  • Provide engineering support for Make Ready Shops, Applications Engineering, Field Operations, Construction, Sales, Supply Chain and Customers as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of make ready project cost estimates
  • Provide engineering support / project management for equipment reliability initiatives.
  • Provide markups and verifications of equipment drawings.
  • Prepare technical bids (when applicable) and/or proposal evaluations and recommendations.
  • Specify, evaluate and select engineered and specialty equipment for operations and major/complex projects.
  • Routine shop, field, yard, and site visits to gather details and information related to compression or treating equipment and project management.
  • Provide expertise and assistance to ASMs / FSTs in operation of compression equipment.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Full-time salary position.
Compressor Package Design Standards and Compliance (20%)
  • Confirm sizing of gas compression equipment efficiently utilizing OEM performance software including Ariel, Caterpillar, Waukesha and Cummins product line.
  • Assist in the preparation of new compressor package cost estimates.
  • Provide support for upgrades and modifications for instrumentation and control systems for Fleet equipment including telemetry, remote monitoring and unit control panel systems.
  • Lead and support the development and maintenance of engineering standards and unit design specifications.
  • Ensure that company standards and strategies comply with the latest industry practices, safety, environmental and process safety management requirements.
  • Execute Management of Change documentation (MOC's) for proposed changes to compressor packages, treating and stations equipment.
  • Prepare documentation required for 3rd party pulsation and torsional analysis studies.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM), when applicable.
New Product Development and Enhancements (15%)
  • Provide technical assistance in the form of written reports, consultation, research, system studies, industry code interpretations and recommendations.
  • Direct work and review outside engineering contractors' designs, studies, drawings and material selections to ensure conformance with USAC's specifications and standards.
Asset Management Support (15%)
  • Support requests for recommendations on reducing operational and maintenance expenses and minimizing Total Cost of Ownership.
  • Lead and support data quality initiatives to maintain and improve technical data quality across the enterprise.
Data Collection Support & Communication Vendor Management (10%)
  • Develop specifications and source suppliers for materials and components required for Fleet equipment.
    Coordinate with both internal resources (account managers, environmental teams, make-ready teams), as well as external resources (customers, vendors, etc.) to encourage a collaborative team culture.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Skills/Capabilities and Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred from an accredited university preferred.
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years of work experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably direct experience in gas.
  • Understand industry codes and standards (ASME, API, ISO, EPA, etc.)
  • Knowledge and understanding of P&ID, Utility Flow Diagrams, GA, and other drawings.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or related software packages as well as Promax software.
  • Strong computer skills in using the Microsoft Office Suite in addition to OEM sizing programs.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communication from the company and supervisor including training, procedures, instructions, etc.
  • Applicant must have the ability to legally work in the U.S.
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to perform in a high-stress and dynamic environment.
  • The employee spends most of the time sitting or standing in a comfortable position with ample opportunity to move about.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to read and interpret data as well as having the capacity to professionally and effectively communicate (verbally and written) with both company and outside personnel.
  • Exposure to noise levels in excess of 85dBA, potentially hazardous chemicals and materials, and extreme weather conditions.
  • Travel is required and can be estimated at 20%-40% on occasion via air or land.
  • Working conditions in natural gas compression vary from one job site to another. Some job sites are indoors in compressor stations while other sites are outside, exposed to a variety of weather conditions. The work environment may be in hazardous locations.
  • There is a strong emphasis on safety while working with heavy equipment and machinery.
