US Veterans Health Administration is Hiring a Supervisory Social Worker Near Columbus, OH

Duties

Duties include:
  • Full responsibility for all phases of social work service delivery for the above mentioned programs
  • Assists the GEC Chief with the programs' resource and fiscal management, including monitoring control points, participation in the development of the budget, operating within the budget, and accounting for appropriated funds
  • Develops local policies and procedures in accordance to VHA and Medical Center policy, Federal, State and Local regulations, and Joint Commission requirements
  • Provides leadership, direction, orientation, coaching, in-service training, staff development, and continuing education programs and opportunities for assigned staff.
  • Collects and maintains statistical and performance data, prepares reports and oversees performance improvement activities related to GEC programs.
  • Provides team leadership, conducting regular staff meetings to coordinate the provision of services in compliance with established policy and procedure.
  • Provides Issue Briefs for reportable incidents to the Facility, VISN and VHACO.
  • Oversees program operations and evaluations, identifying areas for improvement, gathering relevant data, assessing the data, developing and implementing ideas for improvement, and evaluating efficacy of improvement efforts
- Assures that GEC programs and services interface with other VA and community programs to provide continuity of care to Veterans.- Evaluates the program and services and makes recommendations for new services based on outcome data, and develops new initiatives and refine current program policies and procedures to meet the needs of veterans enrolled in the program in an ever-changing environment. Collects and submits GEC program evaluation data as outlined by VACO- Coordinates educational and marketing services to veterans, staff and the community.- Represents the GEC programs and services at appropriate service and facility meetings and establishes liaison relationships with community agencies pertinent to program operations.
- Supervises Social Work Coordinators, (GS-12) and Social Workers (GS 9/11).The GEC Social Work Supervisor establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff that are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system. The GEC -Social Work Supervisor observes workers' performance and conducts work performance critiques, providing informal feedback through supervision. The GEC Social Work Supervisor periodically evaluates employee performance as required by VA policies and procedures. The -GEC Social Work Supervisor provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters and also effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. The GEC Social Work Supervisor approves or disapproves leave requests and ensures all staff fully complies with training and safety expectations.
- Insures that program staff performs the following functions for program patients/consumers: screening/assessment, treatment planning/goal setting, referral to service providers, resource usage/development, advocacy, crisis intervention, education/health promotion and prevention, coordination of non institutional and institutional services and supportive counseling.- Coordinate staffing, work assignments, budget, treatment services and admission criteria to the programs

The incumbent performs program analysis, development, review, research, design, and contact work as possible with various agencies (public, DOD, state, etc.).

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS. The basic requirements for employment as a VHA social worker are prescribed by statute in 38 U.S.C. § 7402(b)(9), as amended by section 205 of Public Law 106-419, enacted November 1, 2000. To qualify for appointment as a social worker in VHA, all applicants must meet the following:
a. Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g this part).
b. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work.
c. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http://vaww.va.gov/OHRM/T38Hybrid/.
To qualify for the GS-13, you must have:

Experience/Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as supervisory social workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:(a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.
(b) Skill in a range of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement.
(c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers.
(d) Ability to delegate authority, manage priorities, coordinate work, and follow up on pending issues to complete duties in an accurate and timely fashion.
(e) Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems, develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations, and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity within the service.
(f) Ability to provide staff training and development.
