UNS Energy Corporation is Hiring a Manager, Facilities Near Tucson, AZ

We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of Manager, Facilities. The primary objective of this role is to optimize the Tucson Electric Power Company (“Company”) facilities utilization, reliability and useful life. In consultation with Company management, the Facilities Manager develops and implements a strategic plan that includes the provision of Company facilities amenities, the maintenance and management of Company office buildings and other facilities, including space planning and management of retail space, management of facility construction projects, and the provision of accurate costs and budgets. This position executes the strategic plan by hiring and managing the optimal combination of staff and/or contractors.

Position-Related Responsibilities

Facilities Utilization

  • Maintain a current understanding of Company short and long term facilities needs
  • This position may be asked to support Unisource Energy Services facilities in the future
  • Build and maintain departmental relationships throughout the Company to understand facility needs and changes thereto
  • Create facilities and utility industry relationships as a resource for best practices
  • Prepare short- and long-term strategic plans for the changing facilities needs of the Company
  • Strategically manage individual and department moves, renovations, space planning, remodels and office construction to ensure efficient use of Company resources, including in the context of hybrid work environments
  • Develop policies and procedures for safe, efficient and appropriate use of facilities
  • Manage retail tenants

Financial Management

  • Manage staff/contractor development of O&M and capital budgets related to facilities
  • Present annual O&M and capital budgets to management for approval and monthly budget variance explanations
  • Present requests for capital approval for construction projects to management

Property and Equipment Maintenance, Repairs and Construction

  • Develop, maintain, and oversee a preventive maintenance program for all significant facility and equipment assets in accordance with Company and industry standards
  • Make prudent decisions whether to repair vs. replace such assets
  • Develop and maintain appropriate processes, policies, and procedures to assure safe, optimal and equitable utilization of facilities assets
  • Oversee facility construction projects including working with the appropriate internal teams to develop the scopes of work, contract, requests for contractor proposals/quotes, construction oversight, proper accounting, and communication with executives and other stakeholders when deemed necessary. This includes coordinating with and managing project architects, engineers, contractors and various internal resources and stakeholders

Safety and Business Continuity

  • Develop and maintain a safety management program for work that falls under the Facilities Manager’s area of responsibility
  • Update the Facilities Business Continuity Plan at least annually and serve as the Facilities Crisis Management Representative
  • Work with Safety, Environmental and Risk Management departments to understand and support their risk mitigation efforts
  • Establish a process to promptly respond to facilities and equipment issues 24/7/365, including assurance appropriate resources will be available to address facilities issues as they arise

Facilities Staff and Contractor Management

  • Determine the optimal staffing structure for facilities and equipment maintenance, repairs, and administrative support
  • In conjunction with Company management and in accordance with Company policy, develop a process to approve work based upon dollar amounts and scope of work
  • Manage contractor and employee access to office facilities as the Facilities Conservator

Management Responsibilities

  • Communicate Company policies, decisions, and leadership discussions with department staff
  • Ensure the Company’s management principles, policies and programs are consistently practiced and continually support the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program and Affirmative Action Plan
  • Assume responsibility for operating the business and provide recommendations on cost improvement measures
  • Ensure that the Performance Management program is administered uniformly and effectively

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Equivalent combiniation of education and experience will be considered.)

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years industry experience required either in the corporate environment, at a third party service provider, or as a consultant.
  • A comprehensive knowledge off facilities management and construction and construction management best practices
  • A comprehensive understanding of business principles
  • Ability to perform cost/benefit analysis
  • Experience developing budgets and analyzing variances
  • A high degree of human relation skills is required to deal with personnel situations and maintain positive relationships with all areas of theCompany
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially with mid and senior managers
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, including public speaking and business writing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Broad utility business experience preferred, including a basic understanding of utility regulation
  • Prefer a bachelor’s degree in Business, Real Estate, Construction, or related field.
  • Prefer professional designations within the fields of Facilities and/or Construction
