Primary Position Function/Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide summative leadership for the Women's Resources Center. This position works with colleagues across campus and the community, including Student Success, Inclusion and Belonging; Student Affairs; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and academic units to advance student success, inclusion, belonging and equity efforts on campus, with a particular focus on addressing issues which impact women students, faculty, and staff at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Major Duties/Responsibilities

Student Success, Inclusion, and Belonging Advocacy

  • Lead the Women’s Resources Center to be a welcoming, active, and vibrant facility for the campus community.
  • Collaborate with other units, especially Student Affairs and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, in the development of services and programs related to women students, faculty, and staff by integrating the Center’s educational activities and programing intended to raise campus awareness regarding the inclusion and advancement of women’s issues across the larger university community.
  • Provide leadership for Divisional and University-wide climate issues impacting women student recruitment, retention, persistence, and graduation initiatives.
  • Assist with policy development to support women student campus climate impacting recruitment, retention, persistence, and graduation initiatives. Assist with the drafting and updating of campus and systemwide policies and procedures specific to sexual misconduct prevention, intervention, and response.
  • Support registered student organizations (RSOs) associated with the WRC in their leadership development, activities, and programming.
  • Develop collaborative working partnerships, specifically with experts in the areas of student success, inclusion, belonging, equity, identity, and diversity knowledge, practice, and policy.
  • Proactively coordinate with academic units, especially Gender and Women Studies, as well as organizations within the broader Champaign-Urbana community to further inform and implement gender and culturally significant initiatives.
  • Serve as a designated Confidential Advisor for student and employee survivors of sexual misconduct, harassment, and other forms of violence.
  • Provide oversight of trauma-informed case management, crisis intervention, and survivor-centered advocacy regarding all legal and administrative options, rights, resources, and referrals for survivors.
  • Support compliance with University policies, as well as federal, state and local legal requirements pertaining to sexual and relationship violence, including Title IX, VAWA, and Clery Act.
  • Partner with the Title IX Office and other University offices (e.g., Counseling Center, University of Illinois Police Department, Office of the Dean of Students) as appropriate to develop and implement training, policies, and practices specific to the prevention of, and response to sexual misconduct on campus, including a peer-led sexual misconduct prevention and intervention education program that is inclusive of all gender and social identities.
  • Actively seek grant, foundation, and gift funds as well as engage in alumni engagement in collaboration with the divisional advancement unit.
  • Represent the Women’s Resources Center, or Student Affairs on campus-wide standing and ad-hoc committees by aiding in processes and collaborative decisions.

Administrative and Supervision

  • Direct supervision over all operations at the Women’s Resources Center, including campus-wide sexual misconduct prevention, and crisis advocacy and support services. Responsible for administering programming, training, and services offered by the Center that advance the status of women and the advocacy of, and participation in, institutional gender equity efforts.
  • Responsible for budget planning and oversight, delegation of tasks, conflict management, planning and goal setting.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating full-time professional staff, office support staff, and graduate and undergraduate student staff, including volunteers and interns.

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Implement an assessment and evaluation strategy which informs a culturally significant approach to data driven co-curricular design.
  • Institute an outcomes-laden method to the development and implementation of educational programs.
  • Provide leadership in reviewing the mission and goals of Women’s Resources Center and creating a strategic plan consistent with the Student Affairs Strategic Plan.
  • Conduct regular program evaluations and coordinate objectives with Student Affairs and University goals.
  • Coordinate the production of reports for internal and external units.

Required Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree, preferably in higher education administration, college student personnel, Gender and Women’s Studies, social work, counseling, or related field required within 2 years of hire.


Experience

  • Five years’ professional experience in student affairs, higher education administration, higher education adjacent organizations, or community organizations directly related to gender and women’s inclusion or survivor advocacy.
  • Experience supervising professional staff members.
  • Demonstrated experience with advocacy in support of survivors of sexual violence.
  • Knowledge of compliance regulations such as Title IX, Clery Act, VAWA, FERPA, Illinois Preventing Sexual Violence in Higher Education Act, and other federal and state regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent judgments, apply discretion, maintain confidentiality, and consult when appropriate in complex and difficult situations that require highly individualized planning.
  • Experience providing culturally significant services to a diverse population of sexual misconduct survivors, particularly those historically underserved by anti-violence movements.
  • Experience working in complex, fast-paced, political environments.
  • Strong interpersonal, prioritization/organizational, and communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

Education

  • Master’s degree, preferably in higher education administration, college student personnel, Gender and Women’s Studies, social work, counseling, or related field.

Experience

  • Experience designing and implementing cultural, social, educational, and/or social justice programs focused on the intersectionality of sexism and other forms of social identity.
  • An understanding of theoretical frameworks undergirding student identity development, social location, and sense of belonging.
  • Experience in operationalizing core social justice constructs within a higher education setting.
  • Experience in facilitating policy review, reform, and development in the service of marginalized identities.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of assessment and evaluation methodologies.
  • Experience in fundraising and working with alumni/diverse constituents.
  • Experience in marketing and communications (e.g., electronic newsletters, websites, social media).
  • Experience in facility management and/or facility development.


Training, Licenses or Certifications

Required:

  • Successful completion of a Sexual Assault or Domestic Violence Crisis Intervention Training (40 hours minimum). – This must be completed within 90 days after hire. The unit will cover the cost of the training.

Preferred:

  • Successful completion of a standalone Domestic Violence Crisis Intervention Training (40 hours minimum, noncumulative), recognized by the state sexual violence coalition in the candidate's state of practice as an advocate.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 1/3/2023. Salary range is $80,000 - $95,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
