The Advancement Operations team has an exciting opening for a Financial Analyst.This is a full-time permanent position.
The UW is currently redesigning its finance-related policies and processes, making it an especially rewarding time to join finance teams across the University. In this collaborative role, the Financial Analyst will help transition the organization through a profound change in our financial operations.
What You Will Do:
Budget Reporting (30%)
Serve as a department budget liaison as it relates to accruals and other accounting matters, making connections between historical expenses/revenues, budgeted items and actual expenses/revenues.
Provide advice to department cost center managers regarding accounting rules, policy interpretation and related compliance issues.
Provide guidance, direction and training to campus departments on finance policy and procedures to enhance organizational effectiveness and customer service.
Prepare specialized reports including regular financial reports using established formats, as well as ad-hoc financial reporting, as needed.
Analyze data from internal and external business partners and/or systems to ensure consistent funding allocation methodologies are applied across units’ and divisions’ budgets.
Recommend actions and options for Advancement leadership and cost center managers through analysis and development of metrics.
In partnership with the Finance team, provide budget-to-actuals reporting for each cost center.
Non-Profit Accounting (30%)
Create monthly accounting reports and balance sheets, including recording monthly entries through various integrations, account reconciliation and resolution of issues between internal and external partners.
Ensure proper filing and payment of all applicable federal and local taxes, including unrelated business income taxes.
Provide guidance and develop policies and procedures to ensure organizational effectiveness and financial stability.
Maintain timely compliance with all federal and state tax filings and status renewals.
Keep abreast of FASB accounting standards and emerging issues.
Assist with annual audit and tax preparation using independent judgement and analysis.
Management of month-end close procedure (25%)
With the transition from an annual close to a monthly close, this position will be responsible for creating, implementing and overseeing a month-end close process for Advancement.
Continuously evaluate the process, propose and then implement revisions as necessary.
Other Duties (15%):
Lead and/or participate in departmental, institutional and University process improvement projects to promote alignment on resource issues, including fiscal compliance, ethics and fiscal operation.
Complete special projects as assigned by the Sr. Director of Finance and Administration.
Lead or serve as a backup for other Fiscal Services activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field AND two years of experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
What You Bring:
Comprehensive understanding of current modern principles, practices and methods of accounting, internal accounting controls, budgeting, fund accounting and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Able to work with a complex fund structure, detailed budgets and extensive chart of accounts.
Able to monitor and review input and output of financial data and develop fiscal queries and reports.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Workday, CRM systems and other financial software or programs.
A commitment to continual process improvements.
Effective organizational, interpersonal, written and communication skills.
Exercise good judgment and attention to detail.
A proactive mindset with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and strict deadlines.
Good business partner and demonstrated ability to collaborate with others to build strong working relationships.
