The primary site of inpatient care services is at the University of Toledo Medical Center, but many of our physicians' practice at hospitals and medical offices throughout the region.

The Clinical Therapist is responsible for providing direct clinical services including diagnostic assessment and counseling and psychotherapy to patients in outpatient mental health treatment programs. Provides documentation, supervision, and educational services as appropriate. Provides clinical supervision (including evaluation & training) of social work staff within the department of psychiatry.
The ages of patients served spans the spectrum of the life cycle. Care will be directed at taking information from patients, answering questions from patients, visitors, etc. recognizing that every age group has unique developmental characteristics influencing the approach that should be utilized in dealing with these patients.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Employee is expected to adhere to UTP/UTMC Service Values including iCare standards at all times.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures as well as addresses patient safety, performance improvement, and quality of care issues. (List operational departmental focus for patient safety).
  • Knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues. Able to recognize safety issues in the department and handles incidents per institutional and/or departmental policies and procedures. If safety issues were identified; all issues were handled timely and appropriately.
  • Employee attends and follows all department specific safety education and training in an effort to create a safe work environment.
  • Provides direct clinical services including diagnostic assessment, development of treatment plans, counseling, and psychotherapy to patients in adult and child/adolescent outpatient mental health treatment program.
  • Performs diagnostic assessments, develops treatment plans, performs counseling/psychotherapy services, and provides ancillary clinical support services as needed
  • Provides clinical teaching for health science campus learners across several disciplines.
  • Utilizes effective program and care coordination skills.
  • Provides care in accordance with all relevant policies of the University of Toledo Medical Center & University of Toledo Physicians.
  • Maintains minimum productivity of 75% of time spent in direct billable face to face patient contact.
  • Provides instruction, design curriculum and/or monitor teaching/learning effectiveness in courses addressing integrated health care, social determinants of mental health, and integrated mental health policy and services.
  • Coordinates learning opportunities for end-of-pipeline mental health trainees and residents in the UT outpatient clinics.
  • Attends physician/resident hospital rounds to facilitate coordination of care and multi-disciplinary team approach.
  • Maintains patient records of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and other appropriate forms and documentation of clinical services provided in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Ensures services rendered comply with Medicaid and related regulations. Documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensures billing records and routine care documents are completed and submitted prior to the end of the das services are rendered.
  • Learns and utilizes new documentation methods and forms as requested.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Participates in activities in support of the University/Department teaching mission.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education : Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology
  • Licensed :
    1. Independently licensed in the State of Ohio as a Psychologist, Social Worker, or Mental Health Counselor.
    2. Experience in the mental health field.
    3. Previous experience providing psychological or closely related diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients.
    4. Previous experience providing psychological or closely related diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients.
    5. Prior work experience or training in a setting with ODMH, CARF and/or Joint Commission accreditation
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, possess excellent time management

    • Excellent written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to set clear objectives

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Primarily work will be performed in clinical outpatient office setting in a well-light and ventilated areas.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Must be able to tolerate busy office environment that requires constant interaction with patients, employees, students, residents, and clinicians.
  • Might be exposed to individuals who may display erratic behavior and must be able to utilize appropriate crisis training.
  • Must be able to work effectively both with internal and external customers in stressful situations
