Brief Description of DutiesThe Social Worker’s general duties include the provision of mental health services to university students, including assessment, consultation, ongoing counseling, case management, and outreach programming. The Social Worker is an integral team member in the Counseling and Wellness Center (CWC) and is based out of the Community College of the University of the District of Columbia. In addition to direct clinical services, the Social Worker will coordinate CWC operations at the Community College including serving as a primary point person for the CWC at the Community College and for providing referrals. The Social Worker reports to the Director of the Counseling and Wellness Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Provides professional mental health services for UDC students, including initial assessment, counseling (individual and group), disposition planning and referral support, crisis intervention and management, and case management services as indicated
  • Serves as the primary point of contact regarding mental health matters at the Community College and with Community College students. The Social Worker has the responsibilities of developing and maintaining effective office operations and school specific materials at and for the Community College under the supervision of the Counseling and Wellness Center Director.
  • Provides consultation to faculty and staff on issues relevant to student mental health concerns, behavioral intervention, and educational performance
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements mental health outreach, training, and programming on psychological and mental health issues utilizing virtual and in person methods
  • Provides clinical supervision and training to non-licensed trainees, including predoctoral psychology students and psychiatric residents who provide counseling services to UDC students
  • Serves as a specialist within the Counseling and Wellness Center, providing information and resources to Counseling Center colleagues on resources such as community based clinical treatment options, social services, and wraparound services.
  • Develops, updates, and maintains a database of referral information for off-campus clinical services (including outpatient, in patient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs) that are relevant for our student populations
  • Provides clinical case management services as needed or assigned by the Counseling and Wellness Center Director based on Center caseload needs
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 Minimum Job Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, or Counseling from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed Social Worker (LICSW) in the District of Columbia or the ability to obtain license within three months of employment.
  • Minimum three (3) years post-graduate degree experience in a human/social services position directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Direct experience engaging and serving diverse communities and backgrounds, including members of underserved and marginalized populations.
  • Experience in crisis and case management.
