Salary
Salary Range: up to $80,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
Hours per Week
Exempt Position: 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions
Function:
To provide high level responsibility for regulatory and quality compliance of sponsored projects, internally and externally funded research projects or University special projects.
Scope:
Responsible for identifying, assessing and mitigating risk for externally funded projects. Responsible for the analysis of financial information to ensure compliance with institutional standards and sponsor guidelines. Provides direction for projects, process improvements and policy development and implementation.
Typical:
  • Assists the Assistant Vice President for Research Finance & Operations in the following:
    • Strategizing in the business of research administration, pre and post award activities, research integrity and university fiscal procedures.
    • Analyzing institutional processes for additional key performance indicators.
    • Coordinating reporting needs of campus stakeholders.
    • Interfacing with projects where implementing business processes can be improved to support better data modeling and reporting needs.
  • Works closely with senior management to plan, develop, coordinate and execute strategies consistent with the vision, mission and purpose of VP for Research Unit and UTSA
  • Coordinates with support staff involved with high risk areas across REDKE.
  • Monitors risk management activities.
  • Develops and administers internal procedures for sponsored projects administration.
  • Develops and maintains quality control processes.
  • Develops and coordinates responses to audit inquiries and findings, ensuring that they are accurate and timely.
  • Identifies issues and opportunities, analyzes problems and alternatives, and develops sound conclusions and recommendations.
  • Effectively presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers, customers, collaborators and sponsors.
  • Collaborates with University central administration offices to ensure best practices and seamless business processes.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Other Requirements:
  • Contributes to the development of institutional policies/procedures and system enhancements involving research administration.
  • Prepares reports.
  • Provides training.
  • Serves on committees.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • 10 years of combined experience in grants and contracts, research administration, audit, accounting, or risk management.
  • Strong planning, organizational and managerial skills.
  • Advanced analytical skills and the ability to draw meaningful conclusions from data.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to facilitate change through others.
  • Ability to operate strategically and tactically.
  • Increasingly responsible management/leadership experience in a higher education or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated advanced level technical experience in accounting or auditing.
  • Proficiency using computer and standard office equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in Research Administration.
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Understands the rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to the systems and technologies that support the UT System.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal funding regulations and OMB Uniform Guidance.
Working Conditions
  • Normal office conditions.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours to meet deadlines. Occasional travel to off campus sites for meetings.
  • This position will be primarily located on the UTSA Main Campus.
Work Modality:
Hybrid-Regularly: This position will require working both remotely and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
