OUR POSITION
The primary role of the Vice President, Marketing & Communications, is to deliver strategic marketing and communications plans aligned with the Allegheny Conference's 2024-2026 Strategic Agenda. The position is responsible for increasing awareness of the Pittsburgh region's assets for economic development as well as for regional talent attraction and retention.
The ideal candidate will have marketing and communications experience at a senior level, a background that includes strategic planning, brand management, storytelling, social and digital marketing, content creation, stakeholder engagement, advertising, and development of collateral materials. They will be a strong writer and have experience executing integrated marketing and communications plans with measurable results. Experience in economic development or related fields is preferred.
An ability and interest in coaching and talent management, developing creative approaches to problem-solving, and being a team player will be key to success in this role. A willingness to dig in and roll up the sleeves when the job calls for it is a must.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as partner to Chief Marketing & Communications Officer with responsibility for delivering marketing and communications plans for the Conference's 2024-2026 Strategic Agenda.
  • Direct and oversee the Allegheny Conference brand and digital brands, "Pittsburgh Region. Next is Now." and "Belong. Become. Be." developing integrated marketing communications plans to share the region's message.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversee the development of content, including websites, blogs, bulk email, collateral, presentations, reports, social media, paid media, programs and events, and earned media.
  • Develop, oversee execution, and drive the success of social and digital marketing efforts across channels - increasing awareness, engagement, and conversion.
  • Work in partnership with the organization's economic development team to develop marketing campaigns, trade show and conference strategies, RFIs, and other efforts to reach business investment audiences in target sectors and geographies with the goal of generating leads for the economic development team to pursue.
  • Lead regional digital talent attraction marketing efforts to brand the region and support employer efforts to attract and retain talent, with a focus on college students and early-to-mid-career professional talent.
  • Partnering with the public and media relations leads to developing PR strategies and pitches, focusing on securing message coverage in top-tier national outlets and key industry and trade publications.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and actively seek opportunities to collaborate with partners in the private, public, and non-profit sectors as well as academia to create impactful marketing opportunities that raise the profile of the region with target audiences.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of organizational communications deliverables such as speeches, talking points, presentations and the production of member-related events.
  • Supervises a team of marketing and communications staff.
  • Establish metrics, review analytics, and report regularly on progress.
  • Manage agency and vendor relationships.
  • Stay abreast of research, trends and innovations in economic development and regional talent attraction marketing and keep the team inspired, in the know and positioned to drive results.
  • Ensure compliance with writing, graphic and brand standards across organizational materials and events.
  • Contribute to the efficiency of the organization by performing other duties and participating in special projects as assigned.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree
Knowledge, abilities, and skills:
  • Ten years experience in brand marketing and/or public relations
  • Social and digital marketing experience required
  • Strong storytelling, writing and editing, writing for social media, and content creation skills required
  • Experience in economic development, B2B and B2C marketing preferred
  • Understanding of analytics and measurement/metrics for marketing and communications
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to lead and inspire others, and work collaboratively with colleagues
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects, prioritize and adjust quickly to changes
  • Willingness to travel regionally, domestically and internationally as needed
  • Proficient in MS Office suite
  • Experience with Looker Studio, G4, WordPress, Sprout Social and Canva preferred
