Founded at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, the Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation (PC3I) is embedded at the nexus of research and practice. Our mission is to create, test, and scale solutions to improve how we care for patients with cancer. We bring together diverse experts to improve health outcomes, increase healthcare efficiency, reduce cost growth, and apply the latest science to make cancer care better for our patients, providers, community, and partners. Reporting to the Director of PC3I, the Director of Operations will be responsible for development and direction of PC3I strategic vision; development and management of Center staff; stakeholder engagement across the Penn Medicine system and beyond; and fiscal and operational oversight of PC3I. This position requires a blend of operational, strategy, planning, communication, collaboration, management and relational leadership skills and will interface with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, industry, and senior University and Penn Medicine administrators and leaders.

Job Description
Reporting directly to the Director of PC3I at the Abramson Cancer Center, the Director of Operations (DOO) will be responsible for fiscal and operational oversight, strategy, and special projects, will manage the day-to-day staff and initiatives of PC3I, and will be a member of the PC3I leadership team, acting as a strategic advisor to the Director.
This position requires a blend of operational, strategy, planning, communication, collaboration, management and relational leadership skills and will interface with internal and external PC3I/ACC stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, industry, and senior University and Penn Medicine administrators and leaders. Primary responsibilities include developing and directing cross-functional teams with PC3I faculty and staff, senior operations leadership, physician, and nursing leaders and facilitating Center-wide goals and priorities.
The DOO will also work in close collaboration with PC3I faculty leaders, including the Deputy Director of PC3I and 9 Associate Directors/Directors of PC3I programs in health equity, community engagement, artificial intelligence, patient-generated health data, implementation science, and others. The DOO will develop and direct PC3I's staff team, which includes ten staff positions (innovation managers, clinical research professionals, and support staff) that matrix with the research and operations staff of 26 faculty members of PC3I, across departments and Schools (including PSOM, Penn Nursing, and the School of Social Policy and Practice). This position requires a high degree of sophistication, resourcefulness, creativity, organizational savvy, discretion and independence; the ability to lead by influencing others at all levels across the University and Penn Medicine.
Internal and External Initiatives and Partnerships:
The Director of Operations will work with the PC3I Director, Deputy Director, and Associate Directors as a relational leader to identify, develop, and maintain strategic partnerships and oversee teams that lead large grants and contracts.
Personnel Leadership:
The Director of Operations will oversee the PC3I staff program, including hiring, onboarding, and supervision of innovation managers; supporting continuous development of the team; and managing resources to enable to the PC3I team to advance projects effectively and efficiently.
Strategy:
The Director of Operations will work closely with the PC3I Director, Deputy Director, and Associate Directors to plan and implement PC3I's strategy for research, operations, communications, and implementation programs.
Center Management:
The Director of Operations will provide fiscal and operational oversight and management of the Center, including financial planning, fiscal accountability, and management of office space and needs, and oversight of communications activities.
Qualifications:
This position requires a master's degree and 7 to 10 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. A track record of success in cancer services or cancer clinical research is highly preferred. This position requires a blend of operational, strategy, planning, communication, collaboration, management and relational leadership skills. The successful candidate will have robust relational leadership skills and organizational savvy, a proven ability to collaborate with a large, diverse group of people and manage related tasks and projects in a dynamic environment, be extremely well-organized, analytically skilled and resourceful, and will have:
the ability to multitask in a fast and highly complex environment,
the ability to communicate effectively with personnel at all levels, including senior level clinical and executive leadership and personnel at a wide range of levels,
the ability to lead by influencing others at all levels
experience with generating and/or managing large scale corporate contracts and/or academic grants,
high energy, initiative, enthusiasm, creativity, and a results orientation,
demonstrated high accuracy, dependability, and attention to detail, and
the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
