Job Description

I. Job Summary

The Manager of Imaging Services is responsible for operational leadership over Nuclear medicine, Cardiographics and Ultrasound

II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  • Plans, leads, organizes and controls the Department’s operations by managing all aspects of clinical operations. Manages and directs the people who perform the functions related to clinical operations.
    • Works with Director to develop annual goals and objectives in accordance with the Medical Center’s strategic plan. Forecast departmental activity and resource needs and develops budget in collaboration with director. Actively facilitates the achievement of budgeted goals and cost objectives. Monitors budget performance prepares variance analysis and plans for corrective action to insure acceptable budget performance.
    • Pursues opportunities to improve service to physicians and patients in the community in relation to diagnostic testing. Accurately assesses the potential barriers and resources necessary for change. Challenges the status quo and takes personal ownership for leading change that enhances the organization. Fosters professional and personal development. Nurtures individual strengths and abilities to develop employee skill set.
  • Manages all aspects Human Resources. Promotes staff engagement and demonstrates appropriate relationships with all staff.
    • Thoroughly and accurately evaluates performances of all subordinates over the past year, in accordance with policy. Always reviews future performance standards/objectives with subordinate prior to performance plan year to ensure mutual understanding of expectations and measures. Keeps proper records (i.e. logs, attendance and skills sheets) on training sessions attended by employees to perform tasks they not qualified to perform. Accountable for the effective recruitment and retention of staff personnel and overall department turnover. Demonstrates creative and appropriate staffing and scheduling techniques remaining within budget parameter.
    • Adapts to changes in the work environment and facilitates staff dealing with work related transitions. Listens and responds appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of others. Demonstrates behaviors that promote positive customer relations with physicians, staff, patients, & visitors. Works persistently to achieve goals and overcome obstacles; takes accountability for results.
  • Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital department or unit patient safety initiatives.
    • Oversees and directs daily workload and staffing levels. Assists others in scheduling and flow of examinations and equipment. Continually monitors the level of professional practices on the unit and institutes actions or programs to ensure comprehensive patient care, teamwork and professionalism. In coordination with leadership, develops goal-oriented plans to meet the learning needs of all the team members.
    • Collaborates with patients, significant others and interdisciplinary heath care providers to assess, plan, intervene, evaluate and document care in an individualized and age-appropriate manner which promotes patient safety and healing according to hospital policy. Assist staff in transporting, prepping, and/or imaging when needed.
    • Contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of an effective quality/safety program, which is reviewed and revised annually. Follows up on results of review evaluation activities and incident reports, and takes corrective actions as required to positively impact the outcome of the Performance Improvement Plan. Demonstrates compliance, accrediting, certification and /or legal requirements of the Performance Improvement Plan. Champions performance improvements initiatives relating to Performance Improvements and follows through with needed action plans. Incorporates new methods or approaches to solving problems. Cultivates alternative viewpoints.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  1. 2 years Associate’s Degree – Required
  2. 4 Year Bachelor’s Degree – Preferred
  3. 1 lead or supervisory experience – Required
  4. 5 years radiology/imaging modality experience – Required
  5. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the above

Certification/ Licensures/Registration

  1. AART, ARMDS, NMTCB certification and current state License – Required
  2. BLS certification – Required
  3. Certification in advanced imaging modality - Preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Proficient knowledge of medical imaging, related terminology and technical knowledge within the area of specialty (e.g. Cardiac Echo or Nuclear Medicine) is required. Knowledge of various types of radiology equipment, particularly those of the area of specialty, where applicable, is required.
  2. Proficient knowledge of PACS systems, RIS systems and EMRs. Ability to understand and learn workflows integrating IT solutions. Ability to learn and manage patient information.
  3. Highly effective written and verbal communication skills are required in order to work with medical and nursing staff to resolve any departmental concerns and to supervise/manage staff.
  4. Proficient guest relations skills are required in order to positively and effectively present a good image of the organization and the Radiology department to its customers.
  5. Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach and motivate the performance of subordinate administrative, clinical, and professional employees.
