University of Maryland, Rehabilitation and Orthopedics Institute (UMR) is recruiting for a Nurse Practitioner to work within the Spinal Cord Injury program.
The Nurse Practitioner will provide direct patient care, in the context of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, to patients with spinal cord injury (traumatic and non-traumatic) in collaboration with two attending physicians and resident physicians. The work involves daily rounding and writing of notes, compilation of discharge summaries, occasional H&Ps (although those are primarily done by the MDs), and coordination of care during transition to post rehabilitation. In addition, the practitioner will support aspects of the outpatient spinal cord injury clinic located on the same campus, including follow-up visits and assistance with procedures such as refilling of intrathecal baclofen pumps.
Duties will include; performing physical examinations and preventive health measures; ordering, interpreting and evaluating diagnostic tests; recording physical findings and formulating plans and prognosis, based on the patient's condition; prescribing or recommending medications or other forms of treatment; discussing cases with physicians; assistance with discharge planning and other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
* Master of Science degree in Nursing with completion of a Nurse Practitioner program; Certified as a Nurse Practitioner, Registered and currently recorded with the Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland.
Current Maryland RN licensure or eligibility to obtain Maryland licensure
* DEA and CDS eligible
* CPR required
* A minimum of one year experience as a Registered Nurse is required
* Demonstrates ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, publishing, and/or certification in area of specialty
* Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
* Demonstrates highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters
* Maintains updated mandatory training
* Updates immunizations as recommended per practice area
