Departmental Overview
This is the sole financial position in the cluster and as such is critical to the general cluster operations, providing financial analysis and support to all members and visitors. The 6 departments and graduate groups are clustered within the College of Letters & Sciences, and Arts and Humanities. The clusters consist of Ancient Greek and Roman Studies; East Asian Languages and Cultures; South and Southeast Asian Studies; Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology; Asian Studies; and Buddhist Studies. The departments share the same administrative staffing unit. There are currently 49 faculty and 48 lecturers, plus 7 staff members. Under the general direction of the Department Manager, the incumbent functions with a high degree of independence to perform a wide range of tasks in the areas of accounting, personnel/payroll, and business-related analysis. The position has independent responsibility for the processing and servicing of a variety of operational, personnel, and financial transactions and services. Includes cashiering, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, data collection and data entry, analysis, review and control, customer servicing, and reporting. Additional duties include assisting with the coordination of events for the Cluster.

Responsibilities
Provides expertise to faculty, students and support staff on issues such as researching complex financial discrepancies, payment problems, escalated customer service problems and vendor concerns. Serves as the financial liaison to L&S Dean's office and Cluster. Applies knowledge on a wide variety of internal and external policies and regulations to address a wide range of issues. Applies professional financial services concepts to independently perform analyses of complex financial services such as researching discrepancies and tax implications and compliance with external regulations and internal policies. Manages and ensures that financial processing functions which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable, cluster credit card management, gifts processing, purchasing, honoraria, reimbursements, suppliers, vendors, Bear Buy, Blu Card, collections, and cashiering are performed with accuracy and that daily operations run smoothly. Implements a diverse range of financial services for faculty students and department staff. Also, may provide back-up support to other ISSA cluster on an as-needed basis. Works with research administration for sponsored projects, grant, and various awards. Handles language proficiency exam full processing cycle. Responsible for paper and electronic course evaluation records Prepares variety of month-end and fiscal close reports such as payroll reports, expenses, budget; independently performs reconciliations, and prepares financial transactions for management review and decision-making. Works with Cal Answers to provide variety of reports on a regular and as-needed basis. Researches, develops and implements new and changing business processes. Assesses and recommends changes as needed to ensure financial processes maintain compliance with federal and state requirements and internal financial/audit policies. Participates in audits of internal records and processes and prepares recommendations for changes as needed. Documents processes and procedures for financial activities to comply with federal and state audit standards. Recommends and implements quality customer service standards and procedures to affected constituencies including Cluster, students and external vendors. UC Path Direct Entry - controls input of all UC Path data entry functions, and journal processing. Attends all UC Path trainings, receives updates, and functions as UC Path liaison for Cluster. Attends campus sponsored presentations on new and best practices. Keeps informed of changes and upgrades to campus systems and processes. Makes recommendations on implementation of policy changes. Reads professional literature to understand regulations and best practices concerning financial accounting and services. Cluster Event Specialist: Primary resource for special events planning, conferences, seminars and workshops. Manage logistics for events including hotel reservations, airfare, Connexus system, catering, venues, and clean up committee. Responsible for financial oversight for events from multiple funding sources, ensuring collection of funding, payment of all invoices, honoraria etc. Help with fundraisers, sending invitations, thank you letters, gift receiving. Handles all travel and lodging arrangements for faculty, guests, and students Ability to respond to miscellaneous Cluster tasks as needed such as reserving rooms and space, office key distribution, access to trilogy locks, coordination for copier and various machine services, mail. Provides scheduling back-up for Cluster, backup for Student Awards and Campus solutions.
Required Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures. Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Office, Excel, and common desktop/web applications. Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Ability to independently investigate issues and develop solutions to problems. Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems. Leadership skills to provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to professional and support staff. Experience with UC Berkeley systems preferred (Cal Answers, BFS, BearBuy, Travel & Entertainment).
Salary & Benefits
This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for full UC Benefits. Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $67,000.00 - $93,100.00.
