Departmental Overview
The University Library is comprised of more than 20 libraries including the Doe/Moffitt Libraries, The Bancroft Library, The C.V. Starr East Asian Library, the Northern Regional Library Facility, and additional libraries that serve as subject specialty resources for departments and schools.
The Finance and Business Services department provides analysis, projections, and information to guide important decisions by Library leadership, contributing to long-range planning and goals. The financial unit is responsible for executing the annual budget and quarterly forecasts and ensuring the long-term financial viability of the University Library by aggressively managing the division's financial assets. The Business services unit is the central office of record for all accounts payable, bluCard transactions, low-value purchase orders and requisitions, and is responsible for the acquisition of all library supplies, payment of all library collection materials, business and service contracts and equipment.

Responsibilities
Applies professional concepts to perform moderate to complex financial or resource analysis to understand past performance and determine present and future performance and / or resource allocations. Activities will involve accessing campus financial systems including BFS, CalAnswers, HCP/HCM and CalPlanning to: Enter data and run appropriate financial reports; Synthesize the data for decision-making needs at the strategic and operational levels; Produce the Library's quarterly financial reporting and annual budget processes. Provides project management and analytical support for complex budget, financial or resource analysis assignments related to the Library's $65m operating budget in support of the Library's strategic plan priorities. This will involve researching and developing well-considered options relevant to the Library's overall financial/operational circumstances and needs e.g. return on investment analysis, strategic use of reserves/carryforward, tracking of future financial commitments/obligations. Works collaboratively with senior-level and operations staff to coordinate and implement department budget allocations. Maintains department chart of accounts or other account management tools, and related data/business processes. Manages and liaises between Shared Services and PI's on contracts and grants proposals and administration. Manages as Research Administrator for the five-year contract with LBNL. Organizes, plans, establishes, and monitors fiscal budget control of contracts and grants administration, gifts, endowments and privately funded projects for PI/faculty research programs. Prepares cost share reports.
Required Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems, including fund management e.g. general funds, contract & grants, private gifts etc. Ability to independently gather, organize, and perform financial analysis assignments. Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner both in writing and verbally Structured approach to plan and prioritize work. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to weigh competing interests. Experience synthesizing large amounts of data into summary tables, graphs, and dashboards. Strong customer service skills. Strong work ethic with a positive attitude and commitment to achieving goals. Expertise in use of Microsoft Office and common desktop/web applications- particularly MS excel. Proficiency in and/or ability to learn campus financial systems (BFS, BAIRS, HCP/HCM, CalPlanning) or similar systems. Bachelor's degree in a finance/business related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in finance or business or CPA and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $77,600.00 - $140,400.00.
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
This position is exempt and paid monthly.
