Departmental Overview
The Department of Anthropology has a teaching program consisting of 29 faculty, as well as a number of lecturers, visiting instructors, postdocs and visiting students. The teaching program employs approximately 60 Graduate Student Instructors per year. The department has approximately 150 graduate students and offers PhD degrees in Socio-Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology and Medical Anthropology, as well as an MA degree in Folklore. The department has an operating budget of approximately $8M, which encompasses the teaching program activities of 15 laboratories, the folklore program, administrative services, and a variety of research projects and working groups.

Responsibilities
Manages and ensures that financial processing functions which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable, Blu card and Event Card management, journal process, gifts processing, purchasing, honoraria, reimbursements, suppliers, vendors, Bear Buy, collections, and cashiering are performed with accuracy and that daily operations run smoothly.
Implements a diverse range of financial services for faculty students and department staff. Also, may provide backup support to ARF and Folklore on an as- needed basis. Works with research administration for sponsored projects, grants, and various awards.
Prepares a variety of month-end and fiscal close reports such as payroll reports, expenses, and budget; independently performs reconciliations, and prepares financial transactions for management review and decision-making.
Works with Cal Answers to provide a variety of reports on a regular and as-needed basis. Investigate and clear deficits from general ledgers. Independently identifies, researches, and analyses deficits. Analyses problem, develops plans, and recommends solutions for deficit reduction.
Provides expertise to faculty, students, and support staff on issues such as researching complex financial discrepancies, payment problems, escalated customer service problems, and vendor concerns.
Serves as the financial liaison to Anthropology, ARF, and Folklore department. Applies knowledge of a wide variety of internal and external policies and regulations to address a wide range of issues. Applies professional financial services concepts to independently perform analyses of complex financial services such as researching discrepancies and tax implications and compliance with external regulations and internal policies.
Researches, develop and implement new and changing business processes.
Assesses and recommends changes as needed to ensure financial processes maintain compliance with federal and state requirements and internal financial/audit policies. Participates in audits of internal records and processes and prepares recommendations for changes as needed. Documents processes and procedures for financial activities to comply with federal and state audit standards. Recommends and implements quality customer service standards and procedures to affected constituencies including faculty, staff, students, and external vendors.
Attends campus-sponsored presentations on new and best practices.
Keeps informed of changes and upgrades to campus systems and processes. Makes recommendations on the implementation of policy changes. Reads professional literature to understand regulations and best practices concerning financial accounting and services.
Applies a wide variety of internal and external policies and regulations to address a range of issues such as regulatory compliance, tax implications, recovery of cash, risk management, and the organized implementation of a diverse range of financial services for students and departments.
Participates in moderately complex audits of processes and recommends changes to processes.
Ensures that the appropriate internal controls are addressed, maintained and strengthened to protect University resources.
Reviews and approves financial data and transactions.
Required Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures. Thorough knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems. Strong proficiency in the use of spreadsheet and database software. Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Ability to function effectively as a member of a team. Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources. Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with UC Berkeley systems (Cal Answers, BFS, BearBuy, Travel & Entertainment).
Salary & Benefits
This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for full UC Benefits.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $67,000.00 - $93,100.00.
