University of Baltimore is Hiring a Youth Recovery Coach - Virginia Youth SBIRT - Part Time, Contingent I Near Baltimore, MD

The Virginia Youth Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Project is a statewide initiative to develop and implement a sustainable SBIRT model to increase access to evidence-based screening, early intervention, and treatment for substance use and co-occurring problems for youth aged 12-21 in Northern and Eastern Virginia. The primary role of the Youth Recovery Coach is to provide the social and emotional supports that aid in recovery to youth who are receiving substance use and/or mental health treatment services.

** This position is located at our Reston, VA offices for the Center for Drug Policy and Prevention and requires a background check.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Support. Meet regularly with youth receiving substance use and/or mental health treatment services to provide social and emotional support. Teach and role model the value of every individual’s recovery experience. Assist youth in their personal goals for recovery through the use of one-to-one and group sessions.
2. Advocacy. Assist youth in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma through self-advocacy. Advocate and assist in coordination for effective recovery based services that will support the client’s whole health.
3. Connection. Liaise with family members and health care professionals as needed.
4. Support other ADAPT (A Division for Advancing Prevention and Treatment) functions that would benefit from input from the incumbent.

Education: A high school diploma or GED is required.
Experience: Two years of related experience is required. Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
