The Virginia Youth Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Project is a statewide initiative to develop and implement a sustainable SBIRT model to increase access to evidence-based screening, early intervention, and treatment for substance use and co-occurring problems for youth aged 12-21 in Northern and Eastern Virginia. The remaining three regions of the state will receive YSBIRT Training and Technical Assistance to support SBIRT implementation. The Trainer for the Virginia Youth SBIRT Project will be responsible for working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support the training of healthcare providers in evidenced-based SBIRT practices. The Trainer will support the development of a Youth SBIRT training curriculum, provide clinical tools, and patient resources. They will provide foundational training incorporating experiential activities, booster training as needed, and ongoing coaching and TeleECHO clinic opportunities to strengthen provider skillsets and adherence to the SBIRT protocol. They will also serve as the primary trainer for statewide training requests in SBIRT and youth smoking and vaping cessation strategies.
** This position is located at our Reston, VA offices for the Center for Drug Policy and Prevention and requires a background check.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Support the development of the Youth SBIRT training curriculum to include SBIRT training, cultural and linguistic competency and health literacy, corresponding provider support tools to aid service delivery, and Train the Trainer modules to support training sustainability. Develop patient education materials and service brochures.
2. Serve as the primary trainer for SBIRT evidence-based practices. Prepare a subset of providers to become trainers using a Train the Trainer approach.
3. Offer ongoing coaching and teleECHO clinic opportunities to strengthen provider skillsets and protocol adherence.
4. Support related training needs for other ADAPT (A Division for Advancing Prevention and Treatment) initiatives.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in human services related field is required. Master’s is preferred.
Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience in training of behavioral health evidence-based practices, including Motivational Interviewing and SBIRT.
