United We Heal is Hiring a STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER (BILINGUAL) Near Portland, OR

Provider Services Fund is focused on making the work of taking care of young children more sustainable. Our training coursework, grant-making, and business tools help providers run successful child care programs.

United We Heal brings together AFSCME members who work in healthcare professions and healthcare employers to jointly develop training opportunities that are responsive to the needs of clients, patients, workers, and employers.

DESCRIPTION

This is an experienced, bilingual digital communications position that is primarily responsible for helping shape and implement strategic external digital and occasional printed communications tactics for two non-profit organizations focused on improving the sustainability of careers in the child care and healthcare sectors through advancement of the interests of working people.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least three years experience in digital communications, preferably supporting labor, political or issue advocacy campaigns, non-profits or similar organizations/campaigns.
  • Desire and ability to monitor and engage effectively on social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
  • Written and spoken fluency in Spanish and English;
  • Excellent and accessible written and verbal communication skills;
  • Experience with brief (under 2 minute) video creation for social media, including writing scripts, interviewing, filming, graphics and editing;
  • Skill in creating swift, compelling and accurate content;
  • Ability to utilize brand guidelines and best-practices for creating engaging content;
  • Ability to meet deadlines;
  • Strong interpersonal and story collection skills;
  • The ability to create and implement communications strategies that support the changing priorities of the organization;
  • Self-starter able to establish goals, prioritize activities and manage one's time on multiple projects with multiple deadlines;
  • Experience with multi-channel digital campaigns and knowledge of digital media platforms, including web content management systems, email tools, and social media analytics;
  • A commitment to economic and social justice for all Oregon workers and their families, especially those in historically marginalized communities through empowering and uniting workers to create change in their workplaces and communities.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity working with design software (Canva and/or the Adobe Creative Suite);
  • Previous experience in the labor movement;
  • Previous experience or knowledge of physical or behavioral healthcare roles and systems;
  • Understanding of and experience working with journalists in Oregon media markets;
  • Experience using Salesforce, Pardot and Action Network, mailchimp or similar CMS systems in addition to HTML;
  • Experience pitching to press and responding to published stories;
  • Experience working with community partners on a shared, values-aligned communications strategy;
  • A strong racial equity lens and understanding of trauma-informed storytelling;
  • Understanding of the unique interests and needs of child care and/ or behavioral health workers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Content development for Provider Services Fund, and United We Heal, audiences through a variety of channels (websites, social, videos, presentations, emails, flyers);
  • Gather and produce content including member stories, photos and video;
  • Development and implementation of discrete communication campaigns with clearly defined and measurable goals, messaging, tactics and timelines;
  • Assist with media relations and public events;
  • Other duties as assigned.

WAGES AND BENEFITS

  • A wage scale with longevity steps, and additional cost of living raises;
  • Starting salary $81,317;
  • Excellent health insurance and employer-paid retirement benefits;
  • Flexible schedule;
  • Full-time, grant-funding secured through June 2025 with the expectation of future grants;
  • Generally, remote office work, but there will be in-state, in-person obligations to capture content and attend meetings;
  • Able to travel to meeting locations within the state;
  • Occasional evening and weekend work.
