Responsibilities

Texas NeuroRehab Center is currently accepting applicants for a Nurse Manager. This candidate will have administrative and clinical responsibility for functioning of Nursing Services on Bluebonnet Program to provide leadership and role modeling for assigned staff. Supervises and provides direct patient care, nursing management, assessment, and crisis management.

Texas NeuroRehab Center is a specialized treatment facility located ten minutes from downtown Austin on 67 wooded acres. Originally a cattle ranch, the land was purchased in 1943 as part of The Brown Schools and has operated as a medical rehabilitation and behavioral healthcare facility for over 60 years.

Today, Texas NeuroRehab Center provides complex medical and brain and spinal cord injury rehab for ages 13 years and older and neuropsychiatric treatment for youth. The capabilities of the facility as a whole allow for integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents and adults facing difficult challenges.Texas NeuroRehab Center is internationally known for improving the quality of life for many children; adolescents and adults, and it will continue to provide innovative approaches to neurobehavioral healthcare.

Qualifications

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of rehabilitation, medical surgical, brain injury. Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnoses, and interventions with patients. Knowledge of milieu management. Ability to accurately administer medication and monitor side-effects. Ability to safely implement Special Treatment Procedures. Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation. Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Understanding of management principles and budgeting procedures. Able to evaluate other staff using the criteria in their job description.

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Current State of Texas Registered Nurse License, Current CPR certification. CRRN preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Two years of inpatient rehabilitation, medical surgical, or brain injury experience required. One year of progressive experience in management and/or supervision. Experience in evaluating staff against the criteria in their job description preferred.

PHYSICAL/GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to lift and carry 50 pounds with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Able to physically restrain patients by individual or team restraint per policy. Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Able to use a computer and/or write for extended periods of time. Hearing, vision, and emotional stability sufficient to perform essential job functions. Able to communicate in writing and verbally and to speak clearly such that others can understand. Able to use the phone for extended periods of time. Regular and expected attendance.
