UC Davis Health is Hiring an Operating Room Assistant I Near Sacramento, CA

Department Description
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) has space for 63 beds or gurneys. The PACU is focused on the recovery of patients from anesthetic agents, airway management, pain control, sedation, and hemodynamic monitoring for post-surgical adult and pediatric patients as well as patients from other units such as radiology, GI lab, pulmonary lab, cardiac catheterization lab, and labor and delivery. The PACU may function as an overflow ICU when the ICUs are at capacity. There are two PACUs; Pavilion PACU (63 beds) and CSC PACU (24 beds).

Responsibilities
The OR Assistant I aid and support services in the clinical and non-clinical areas of the operating room. The OR Assistant I also work alongside other support staff and participates as an ORA team member with responsibilities for maintaining the O.R. environment. The OR Assistant I in this role participates in activities that clean, organize, and prepare all areas of the Main Operating Room. In addition, but not limited to, this position facilitates transport of supply items, instruments, and equipment. The OR Assistant I will transport patients, transport specimens, transport deceased patients, and under direct supervision of a registered nurse, may assist with other patient care activities. This position is also responsible for maintaining and organizing supply items, instruments, and equipment, properly handle clean and infectious waste, distribute sterile supplies, instruments and equipment, clean and test autoclaves for proficiency, document properly in various logs, and provide other general duties pertinent to the department's needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Certification
  • Experience transporting patients in an inpatient setting
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal communication and relationships.
  • Ability to set priorities, organize work independently.
  • Ability to handle or cope under stressful situations.
  • Ability to prioritize own duties.
  • Knowledge of conducting Quality Assurance monitors pertinent to assigned areas.
  • Knowledge of emergent and routinely used equipment.
  • Knowledge of handling delicate equipment (Doppler, Scanner, portable O2 Saturation Monitor, CPAP Monitors).
  • Knowledge of handling infectious waste and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull gurneys
  • Physical strength to assist in moving and/or lifting patients.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Willingness and ability to work in multiple PACU locations as assigned.
  • Ability to assist OR with similar duties on a case-by-case basis as assigned. These duties must be within the specific ORA’s trained skills and abilities being before performed independently
