U.S. Coast Guard is Hiring a Financial Management Specialist GS-0501-12/13 Near Washington, DC

Duties

This position serves as a Financial Management Specialist with responsibility for recommending policy development, planning, administering, and evaluating complex and critical administrative operations and programs of Coast Guard-wide Financial Management to ensure overall effectiveness and efficiency of programs, operations, organizations, and agency functions.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Developing Coast Guard specific requirements for the replacement federal financial system.
  • Recommending policy to solve complex problems such as accounting for budgetary and financial transactions for which no precedent has been established.
  • Recommending financial policy associated with remediation of audit discrepancies in federal financial systems through the application of complex software development procedures as documented by the Office of Inspector General.
  • Recommending financial policy, implements, and ensures compliance with plans, policies, standards, infrastructures, and architectures that establish the framework for the internal control management of
    USCG financial management systems.
  • Performing policy development often within the FRMM and as it relates to specialized financial management functions around the migration to a new financial system, including analysis and support of complex business process changes necessary to centralize financial management functions and improve the organizational structure.
  • Researching financial management and accounting system standards and formulates financial management policy and financial reporting procedures for the US Coast Guard as a whole to ensure orderly and accurate recording and reporting of program and financial transactions.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-13: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lowest grade level (GS-12 level) in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience includes experience that involved extensive operational experience in positions.

  • Knowledge of financial data system and management operations; AND
  • Knowledge of budget and financial management practices, procedures, regulations and precedents, policies, and guides; AND

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
