Reporting to the Sr. Manager, IT Project Management Office, the Project Manager is responsible for providing planning guidance and the tracking of IT projects of varying levels of complexity. Key responsibilities include: consulting with project leads and sponsors to establish scope, schedule and budget; setting high-level timelines and detailed project plans; reviewing plan tasks with stakeholders; identifying risks and issues that arise; providing project updates. In addition to day-to-day coordination of projects, the position will be expected to think about how their project(s) fit or conflict with other priorities projects within the organization.

This position will be based at our Frederick, MD Corporate Office and will report to the Senior Manager, PMO. This is a hybrid role.


Duties/Responsibilities:

Project Leadership:

  • Coach project team members on project management process and principles, sharing best practices to ensure team – and project – success.
  • Coordinate project deliverables with other project managers, business leads, stakeholders, and support contractors in an indirect reporting structure.
  • Within the Project Management Office, provide leadership on assigned projects, ensuring that updates are made to organizational project dashboards and that any issues or risks are raised.

Tracking and Monitoring:

  • Track and provide regular project status and audit reports.
  • Facilitate project team meetings for planning and to review task completion and upcoming work; in these meetings, identify risks and issues that may affect timeline or delivery quality.
  • Manage the risk, issue and change resolution process, and work with other leaders to take corrective action as needed.

Prioritization:

  • Manage multiple task and phases within a project, and among different assigned projects, maintaining appropriate level of prioritization and setting/resetting expectations as needed.
  • Work within the PMO to help prioritize projects within the wider portfolio.
  • Work with project sponsors and executive leaders to define project priorities, implementation opportunities and challenges.


Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, project management, or related field and at least 7 years of experience working on IT implementation projects; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of project management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of project and change management, techniques, and processes.
  • Experience in a variety of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) and an understanding of when each type is appropriately applied.
  • Budget, cost and profitability tracking skills.
  • Ability to influence without authority.
  • Flexible, adaptable and resourceful when managing changing timelines and multiple deliverables.
  • Motivated to build relationships at all levels with technology, solutions, customers and vendor groups.
  • Knowledge of project management governance processes and functions.
  • Knowledge of IT project planning/monitoring methodologies/processes, design, implementation, and documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience working with staff at all levels in both operational and IT areas.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to compose and present business and technical material to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivation, ability to work independently and to manage projects through effective communication, including analysis and persuasion.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn new areas of our business and new technologies.
  • Can both lead and perform hands-on work.
