The Salvation Army Western PA Division is Hiring a Human Resources Specialist Near Carnegie, PA

The Salvation Army of Western PA is seeking an experienced Human Resources Specialist to join our HR team. As a Human Resources Specialist, you will aid and facilitate the HR processes for all Western PA Corps Locations. This position provides support in functional areas of the Human Resources Department, which includes benefits administration, maintaining employee files and data and supports the Human Resources Director with administrative duties related to the HR Department.

This is a full-time (40hrs), Monday - Friday position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the coordination and distribution of monthly performance review process to appropriate department heads. May send reminder emails when needed.
  • Support HR Coordinator with recruiting and hiring process.
  • Assist HR Director with processing all requests from Corps Officers and Managers and provide follow-up on progress.
  • Benefits Enrollment: Identify 90-day eligible employees, send enrollment forms and brochures, explain the benefits and answer questions to ensure a clear understanding of the benefit programs.
  • Enroll all eligible employees, meeting strict enrollment guidelines for both voluntary benefit elections and for those benefits provided by The Salvation Army.
  • Maintain the Chesterfield Resources Database, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all employee data for Medical and Voluntary Life Insurance benefits.
  • HRIS data entry for new hire entering, benefit elections, benefits updates, and open enrollment changes.
  • Responsible for entering/deleting voluntary deductions in the payroll system for benefits.
  • Responsible for the administration of the Short-term Disability Program enrollment and follow-up.
  • Administer the Federally mandated Family and Medical Leave Act, including all paperwork and follow-up with employee.
  • Monitor New Hire spreadsheet regarding new hires and take appropriate action as it relates to benefit communication.
  • Establish and maintain medical and benefit files for all divisional employees.
  • Provide on-going support to employees who are enrolled in any benefit program.
  • Responsible for complete Open Enrollment process
  • Establish and maintain departmental/employee records, files and logs.
  • Support processing, generating, assembling, distributing and/or maintaining HR forms, documents, and reports.
  • Maintain the day-to-day efficiency of essential office functions in support of the Human Resources Department.
  • Perform reference and background checks for applicants.
  • Assist with administration and communication of HR programs, benefits or services as assigned.
  • Respond to routine questions on HR forms, records, policies and/or procedures and supports HR, Corps Offices, Officers and Employees by providing front-line HR support and information.
  • Prepare new hire packets consisting of the required paperwork and an Employee Handbook. Order forms, handbooks, supplies when needed.
  • Responsible for Volunteer clearance processing and tracking.
  • Responsible for Employee clearance renewal tracking and processing.
  • Other duties and special projects as directed by the HR Director to maintain the smooth operation of the divisional HR Department.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to learn HRIS
  • Benefits experience and FMLA knowledge
  • Good computer and clerical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to relate and respond to employees, management, and leadership
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in daily operations
  • Must successfully complete The Salvation Army’s KeepSAfe required training.

Education and Experience

· Associate Degree or equivalent experience in human resources generalist functions.

· At least 1 to 2 years previous clerical or administrative experience required.
