The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is Hiring a Financial Analyst Near New York, NY

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Financial Analyst will play a key role in assessing operating plan impacts on the current and projected finances of the organization by ensuring that senior management decisions are backed by robust data analysis. This position will be vital in the financial performance evaluations, reporting and maintenance of budget and financial planning systems. As a critical member of the team, you will ensure the analytical needs and financial operations practices are handled in a thorough, accurate, actionable, and timely manner. You will serve as the go-to analytical resource and support the development and implementation of 9/11 Memorial and Museums financial management objectives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborate with management from across the organization to verify key assumptions and expand data inputs to enhance financial models.
  • Oversees budgeting system including management of day-to-day operations, system improvements and implementation, documenting processes & procedures, creates and performs regular staff trainings, and contract management.
  • Works with departmental management and finance staff to produce annual and multi-year departmental budgets, create tracking mechanisms and perform revisions, as required.
  • Analyze and develop monthly budget vs actual reports to management.
  • Proactive in learning and maintaining the existing financial models for operating and capital expenses, including mid-year reforecasts.
  • Analyzes variances in actual vs. projected amounts, relays such variances to the Senior Director of Finance and Business Intelligence.
  • Effectively communicates with department management to document drivers, and updating financial models and reports, as appropriate.
  • Performs ad hoc modeling in support of cross-departmental efforts such as scenario planning, labor, and fringe analyses.
  • Performs P&L variance analyses, as needed.
  • Fluent in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel and developing graphs and presentations for board and leadership meetings.
  • Assists in summarizing and presenting a large amount of data to management in a clear and concise manner; ability to analyze current and past trends in key performance indicators.
  • Prepares presentations and materials for the Buildings, Finance & Investment Committee, and other audiences, as requested.

REQUIRED SUPPORT FOR ORGANIZATIONAL EVENTS

  • Participate in the Annual 5K Fundraiser and 9/11 Commemoration, as assigned.
  • Assist with other special projects and events in support of 9/11 Memorial & Museum, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIREMENT

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, or related field required.
  • Minimum 3-4 years’ experience in financial analysis preferred.
  • Highly collaborative and hands-on experience, ability to work independently with staff across the organization to support financial planning and analysis.
  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated problem solver with the drive to explore iterative avenues of analysis.
  • Demonstrated record of outstanding quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications: Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, as well as experience with financial systems.
  • Experience with Financial Edge and Vena Solutions preferred.
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize workload and execute deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and synthesize financial data and present in an accurate, concise, digestible, and actionable manner.
  • The candidate must be proactive and highly analytical with experience in collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing data to drive strategic recommendations.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing complex data sets using commonly available tools (e.g. Excel, Access, Business Objects) is essential. Advanced Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, conditional formulas) required, experience with Financial Edge a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, drive progress, and thrive under dynamic and often fluid conditions with collegiality and flexibility.
  • Develops new and innovative solutions to seemingly intractable problems and encourages others to do the same.
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to create compelling and concise narratives for senior executive audiences, using PowerPoint and/or Word.
