The Kinkaid School is seeking a STEM Teacher to join its Middle School team starting in August 2024.
The Middle School STEM Teacher is responsible for fostering a collaborative learning environment to connect content to students’ innate inquisitiveness and critical thinking skills. Reporting to the Head of Middle School and in support of the content-area Department Chair, the Middle School STEM Teacher promotes high levels of learning in an engaging and effective manner using various teaching methods and curriculum resources for students in grades 5-8. In support of The Kinkaid School STEM Center, opening in Fall 2025, the Middle School STEM Teacher will contribute to the vision of the STEM program and will develop and deliver a new eighth grade course focused on various modules and applications in the context of STEM, starting in Fall 2024.

The Kinkaid School is a co-educational, nonsectarian day school enrolling over 1,400 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The student body is divided into the Lower School (PreK - 4th Grade), the Middle School (5th grade - 8th grade) and the Upper School (9th grade - 12th grade). Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the Kinkaid offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban, and diverse culture
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and deliver eighth grade level curriculum for a one trimester course that consists of engaging and innovative lesson plans that cover the skill sets needed for exploration in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
Teach two classes in STEM-related subjects (ie., math and/or science)
Foster a dynamic learning environment that encourages student creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving
Utilize a mix of instructional strategies and resources to promote understanding for students with diverse learning styles
Assess and track student progress, provide feedback, and adapt lesson plans
Encourage and support students in STEM competitions and events outside the school day
Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student learning and well-being
Keep up to date with developments in STEM education and incorporate these into teaching practice
Provide support and guidance for student-led projects outside of the classroom and STEM initiatives
Serve as an advisor to Middle School students and commit to duties required in supervising students in grades 5-8 by following established school safety and disciplinary rules
Availability to participate in after-school activities, including clubs and sporting events
Bachelor's degree in Education or a relevant STEM field (Masters degree preferred)
Proven experience teaching in a middle school environment
Advanced knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Passionate about fostering a love for STEM within students
Maintain integrity to the mission of the school and the MS Educational Philosophy
