The King Center is Hiring a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Near Atlanta, GA

Description

The Chief Financial Officer is a member of The King Center’s Executive Management Team and is responsible for accurate and timely accounting and financial reporting for The King Center, as well as establishing and maintaining a strong system of internal controls. The CFO reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and directly assists the Chief Operating Officer (COO) on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, The CFO currently oversees Finance and Accounting, Technology and Facilities & Security (in absence of COO).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides the CEO and COO with an operating budget. Work with the COO to ensure programmatic success through cost analysis support, and compliance with all contractual and programmatic requirements. This includes: 1) interpreting legislative and programmatic rules and regulations to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and contractual guidelines, 2) ensuring that all government regulations and requirements are disseminated to appropriate personnel, and 3) monitoring compliance.
  • Develops and maintains financial management policies and procedures that align with The King Center’s (TKC) mission, preparation of annual financial statements and ensuring that TKC is in compliance with all Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and best practices with respect to accounting for non-profits. Oversee the preparation of annual IRS form 990.
  • Work with State Registration agency to ensure compliance with each state's requirement(s). • Work with legal team and advisors when needed in reviewing all legal documents and execute any contracts and/or agreements at CEO's or designee’s direction.
  • Represent the company to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.
  • Works with Executive Leadership Team (DOD, COO and CEO) in long-range and annual development (fundraising) planning and developing new business, the drafting of prospective programmatic budgets, determining cost effectiveness of prospective service delivery
  • Oversees the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organization including: organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, reports to funding agencies, development and monitoring of organizational and contract/grant budgets • Oversees all Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, purchasing, payroll, and in absence of a human resource professional work with CEO’s designee on all human resource matters including employee benefits. Works with benefits providers to ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations regarding employee benefits.
  • Handles risk-management for the TKC, working with insurance agents to ensure adequate property and liability insurance coverage for TKC’s assets and activities.
  • Oversees the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring all A-133 audit issues are resolved, ensure all 403(b) compliance issues are met a and federal, state and other required regulatory requirements are adhered to.
  • Attend Board and Subcommittee meetings; including being the lead staff on the Audit/Finance
  • Committee and prepare briefings and reports on finance and budgetary issue and status.
  • Oversees the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets, including assets purchased with government funds (computers, etc.) assuring all are in accordance with federal regulations Monitors banking activities of the organization and ensure adequate cash flow to meet the organization's needs
  • Oversees facilitates management including maintenance and upkeep of the physical sites and security
  • Train the Finance Unit and other staff on raising awareness and knowledge of financial management matters.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Bookstore and Resources on vendor management and financial reconciliations.
  • Keeps abreast of financial trends in the non-profit field and new federal regulations and guidelines; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Not-for-profit accounting in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, OMB Circulars A-133, A-110 and A-122, and compliance requirements, and appropriate Code of Federal Regulations sections.
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
  • Organizational development, human resources, and program operations
  • Previous experience in operational oversight a plus
  • Not-for-profit experience is required
  • Grants Management experience is required
  • Local candidates only. Relocation is not provided

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Minimum Bachelor degree in accounting, finance or business from an accredited college; a CPA and/or MBA would be a plus.
  • Five to seven years in managerial role in a finance setting with knowledge of nonprofit and grant management
  • Two to five years of facilitates management experience
  • Strong technical acumen; working with or overseeing some area of technology or telecommunications is required
