We seek a humanities instructor who can assist students in fusing English language-arts and
history in an environment that nurtures and develops students into positive global citizens; cultivates an appreciation of humanities and the importance of the English language and history; prepares students for success in high school humanities programs; and presents students with experiences that promote and develop a growth mindset. The ideal candidate will hold a Multi-Subject Credential or an English and/or History Single-Subject Credential. The candidate should be comfortable teaching various courses including, but are not limited to 6th through 8th-grade English, Ancient History, World History, and U.S. History. Additional experience in student led newspapers and/or Model UN is desired and will be highly considered. Faculty Professional Characteristics/Qualities include: Maintains a passionate, student-centered, developmental approach to teaching Is well-organized and maintains up-to-date lesson plans, scope and sequence, and curriculum maps Demonstrates the ability to differentiate instruction and address the needs of all student learners Engages in meaningful and productive collaboration with administration, colleagues, and parents Displays excellent communication skills with a commitment to keeping parents informed as partners in their child’s learning Is motivated to take risks and seek leadership opportunities Exhibits interest in professional growth opportunities with a strong commitment to ongoing education Motivated to improving the school as a whole, sharing best practices Adept at utilizing technology as an added instructional tool including: navigating Google applications, working with iPads, and upholding classroom management of various educational applications Is self-reflective and committed to improving one’s practice embracing feedback from colleagues, administrators, and students Creates of a strong classroom culture that is developed through a Responsive Classroom approach, and contributes to the broader school Kehilla (community) Responsibilities Include: Teach five sections of MS Humanities Develop and refine curriculum maps, lessons, and units of study that meet or exceed the requirements of Common Core Standards Lead a weekly elective activity in the field of English or History, (Model UN or School Newspaper) Lead a weekly Advisory group using curriculum provided by Hillel Plan and coordinate a grade level MS humanities trip Use the Schoology Learning Management System (LMS) to post assignments, communicate with students, and maintain gradebook weekly Supervise students in and out-of-classroom activities during the school day, including carpool, recess, and lunch supervisions Attend and participate in all staff development, including staff orientation and professional development for both internal (led by the Head of Academics, Director of Middle School, other teachers/staff, and/or visiting experts) and external (visiting other schools, attending conferences, and engaging in best practice sharing with others in the school community, etc.) as arranged/calendared by the School Participate and/or lead special school events including, but not limited to, Open House, Back to School Night, grade level trips, and special student performances Assess student progress and achievement using a variety of means to collect and report on academic data Use data to inform instruction in order to meet individual student academic and social needs with a goal of every student performing on grade level or above in all subject areas Provide emergency lesson plans for substitutes Other Responsibilities include: Be visibly and actively present and on time to all other assigned duties on campus Maintain frequent communication and engagement with colleagues, students families, and other school stakeholders Participate as an active member of the community to provide stewardship of the school and adherence to its mission and guiding principles Maintain a high level of professionalism including meeting deadlines, and commitments to self, students, and the community Collaborate with grade level and department teams and the student support team to design and implement curriculum and assess student growth in meaningful and rigorous ways Attend and participate in all faculty meetings and curriculum development programs Attendance at all other community/school events is encouraged
