The Foundation for Hispanic Education is Hiring a PE Teacher Near San Jose, CA

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The PE teacher provides an educational program within the scope of TFHE’s philosophy and goals. Under the supervision of the Principal, the teacher provides a planned instructional program in Physical Education following curriculum specified by State Framework and State Standards. Delivers learning experiences to encourage maximum student growth using appropriate materials and techniques. Promotes a classroom environment that is conducive to student growth and responsibility. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other staff development to maintain professional competence.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaches students skills specific to physical education
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons and communicates these objectives to students
  • Assesses accomplishments of students on a regular basis, keeps appropriate records of students’ achievement and social behavior and communicates with parents on individual student progress
  • Creates a learning environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
  • Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by TFHE and/or self-selected professional growth activities
  • Selects and requisitions instructional materials, and supplies as needed, and maintains required inventory records
  • Responsible for TFHE property and equipment in order to prevent loss or abuse, makes minor adjustments and requests repairs when necessary
  • Administers tests in accordance with district, state, and/or school testing program
  • Participates in development of curriculum and/or other programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level
  • Plans, coordinates, directs, and supervises the work of volunteers, and coaches
  • Maintains professional competence through participation in professional development provided by TFHE, and/or in self–selected professional growth activities

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Research and best practices in working with high school youth with multiple levels of skills and achievement gaps;
  • State graduation educational standards, including secondary P.E. content standards;

ABILITY TO:

  • Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual or team sports, and ensure students receive some daily fitness sessions. Exercises may include jumping jacks, squats, basketball, soccer, volleyball, etc.
  • Demonstrate and explain basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, and fundamentals of body movement.
  • Provide appropriate safety instruction and make regular safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure overall safety of students.
  • Promote healthy eating habits, and an active lifestyle amongst students

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major or minor in physical education, preferred
  • Physical Education Credential or Internship Credential
  • Experience teaching in a diverse cultural environment
  • Valid CPR certificate
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Physically fit to perform the essential duties of the job

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is continuously interacting with the public, staff and students. The employee frequently must meet multiple demands from several people. The employee is regularly required to sit and stand. The employee is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Occasionally the employee must use hand/grip strength to operate office equipment. Ability to withstand long term use of video display terminals is required.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use interpersonal skills. Frequently required to compare, analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate and negotiate.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is required to regularly interact with the students, staff and the public.
