The Broad Institute, Inc. is Hiring a Senior Director, Business Development and Strategy Near Cambridge, MA

Job Description Senior Director, Business Development and Strategy The Broad Institute has played a pivotal role in mapping the genetic basis of disease, and developed operational frameworks and software platforms to engage patients through web-based study recruitment. We are well-positioned to lead the next phase of transformation for rare disease clinical research and discovery by building a scalable and sustainable direct-to-patient platform, powered by data and alliances, to connect patients with the research options available to them. At the Broad, we collaborate with world-leading technology, biotech, and pharmaceutical companies as well as philanthropic organizations and provide a vibrant engineering environment with close links to top academic and industry institutions across the Boston area and the world. Together, these activities make us a leading organization at the intersection of clinical and data sciences. The Direct to Patient Research Hub was formed to combine complementary efforts from Count Me In (CMI) and from the Broad’s Data Sciences Platform (DSP); to build synergies among these efforts and expand capabilities to support patients with rare diseases and elevate their engagement in research. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as Head of Business Development and Strategy. This person will play a pivotal part in driving the growth and expansion of our organization - developing and executing the business development strategy, ensuring that we secure appropriately funded and mission-aligned accounts, and growing key partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a passion for engaging with customers and have extensive experience managing and growing professional services teams within SaaS companies. They will enjoy working in a collaborative, team-based setting and interacting with people at other organizations around the world. They will thrive in the scientific work of the Broad Institute. What You Will Do: Develop and implement mission-aligned business development strategies to meet and exceed revenue goals. Drive business negotiations through licensing of technology and contract services; assessing incoming opportunities or envisioning and proposing new projects in the form of grant proposals and industry bids. Work with the Hub’s financial team to translate the business development pipeline into revenue forecasts and to create pricing structures that support sustainability. Collaborate with product, finance, and organizational leadership to develop go-to-market strategies for new products and services. Identify and secure strategic partnerships that enhance our technology and services, and support our business objectives. Partner closely with product, engineering, and operational teams to ensure the scope of contracts are well defined, understood, and teams are appropriately resourced to execute the work on a mutually agreed-upon timeline. As a member of the Hub’s leadership team, exemplify its values, weigh in on strategic decisions, and help chart the right path forward as we expand our reach. Build relationships with key scientific and administrative leadership across the Broad Institute. Keep your finger on the pulse of life science industry trends, market dynamics, and competitive landscape, using this knowledge to make informed strategic decisions. Partner with product and engineering leadership to ensure that needs and feedback from customers and stakeholders in key market segments are well understood and incorporated into product roadmaps. “Leave the ladder down” - build infrastructure with an eye toward supporting a growing business development team in future years. What You’ll Bring Proven track record of at least 10 years in business development and/or related field, particularly for organizations offering software-as-a-service and contract services in healthcare or the life sciences. Extensive experience in the full life cycle of business negotiations including term sheets, deal structuring, negotiating, and closing contracts with clients and partners. Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and internal teams. Executive-facing customer service expertise: you have comfort and interest in traveling to meet with senior executives and other key stakeholders in academia, philanthropy, and industry. #LI-HYBRID All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status. Check out this video for a look into our community! The Broad Institute is pioneering a new model of collaborative biomedical science to transform biology and medicine. To do that, we have created a unique community of amazing, creative people — “Broadies” — each with a passion for pushing scientific frontiers. Broadies have a diverse collection of talents, expertise, and backgrounds, creating a rich collaborative environment for solving intractable scientific problems. We are always looking for new team members within Research, Computational Biology, Software Engineering, and Administration to help us tackle important problems at the cutting edge of science. Why Broad? It comes down to our culture. Our community transcends academic and organizational barriers, encouraging different points of view and making all Broadies part of something meaningful. If ours is a community you would want to be a part of, then please apply! * Return to view all job postings
