Texas School for the Deaf is Hiring a Communications and Marketing Specialist Near Austin, TX

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Length of position: 12 months

Hours: 8 AM - 5 PM

SUMMARY

The Communications and Marketing Specialist at the Statewide Outreach Center is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing communication and marketing efforts. This role plays a critical part in building the center's brand, expanding its reach, and conveying its mission and services effectively. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Communication Strategy Development

  • Collaborate with the outreach and management teams to develop comprehensive communication and marketing strategies aligned with the center's mission and goals.
  • Identify key messages, target audiences, and communication channels.

Content Creation and Management

  • Create compelling and engaging content, including written materials, graphics, videos, and other multimedia assets.
  • Manage the center's website, blog, social media accounts, and email newsletters.
  • Ensure content is accurate, up-to-date, and consistent with the center's branding.

Media and Public Relations

  • Establish and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and bloggers.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, media kits, and news updates.
  • Respond to media inquiries and coordinate interviews or press events.

Marketing Campaigns

  • Develop and execute marketing campaigns to promote the center's programs, events, and services.
  • Create marketing materials, such as brochures, flyers, posters, and digital advertisements.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing initiatives.

Social Media Management

  • Manage and grow the center's presence on social media platforms.
  • Create and curate content for social media posts, engaging with the community and responding to comments and messages.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Collect and analyze data related to communication and marketing efforts.
  • Prepare reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide insights for improvement.

Event Promotion

  • Collaborate with the outreach team to promote events, workshops, and initiatives.
  • Develop event promotion strategies and materials.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in communications, marketing, or public relations roles.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in graphic design and multimedia content creation.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing tools.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Analytical skills for data collection, reporting, and performance assessment.
  • Sign Language: The ultimate required proficiency level for the position using the levels designated in the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) is ADVANCED. If hired with a sign language proficiency level below this level, you are required to participate in signed communication learning opportunities on a regular basis until you have achieved the sign language proficiency level assigned to your position. Must have at least minimum level of INTERMEDIATE.
