Texas School for the Deaf is Hiring a Theater Arts Teacher Near Austin, TX

Terms of Employment:

Length of position: 189 day contract

Hours: 7:30 A.M.- 4:30 P.M.- Hours may vary

Salary: Depends on experience

SUMMARY
Provides classroom instruction to deaf students in the Theatre Arts program and other assigned CTE subjects. Plans, develops, presents, modifies curricula. Prepares lesson plans and other instructional materials to student ability levels and in accordance with student’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP). Evaluates and documents appropriate data to monitor student progress and serves as an advisor/advocate for students in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) process. Works in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides classroom instruction to deaf students using a variety of teaching strategies in response to student learning styles.
  • Plans, develops, presents, and modifies curricula to meet student needs.
  • Develops engaging, hands-on instruction that helps prepare students for college-level coursework or competitive employment.
  • Submits lesson plans per department requirements.
  • Establishes ongoing, collaborative relationships with local colleges and employers to ensure that the curriculum adequately prepares students to excel in college-coursework or jobs related to business, human services, consumer services, or related fields.
  • Serves as an Advisory Teacher/Advocate for assigned students. Collaborates with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop IEP through the ARD committee process for each student assigned and Participates in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis. Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by IEP and using a variety of teaching techniques.
  • Works cooperatively with instructional team to regularly modify curricula as needed to assist students in their classroom assignments.
  • Uses technology for teaching/learning process.
  • Manages student behavior in accordance with the code of conduct and individual behavior programs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors and Valid Texas teaching certificate in the subjects and level of assignment and appropriate Special Education certification or the ability to obtain valid Texas certifications within prescribed time frame.
  • Demonstrated experience or training in Theatre Arts or Theatre Tech.
  • Sign Language: The ultimate required proficiency level for the position using the levels designated in the Signed Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) is ADVANCED. Must have at least minimum level of ADVANCED.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Theatre and/or CTE Certification
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar Office applications
  • 3 years teaching experience
  • Sign communication skill rating exceeds the required level

7. Safety and security—the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures, and uses equipment and materials properly.
8. Interpersonal Skills—the individual maintains confidentiality, remains open to others’ ideas and exhibits willingness to try new things.
