Description:
The Laboratory Technician is expected to contribute in many ways to research projects in the Coastal Conservation and Restoration Ecology Lab, including carrying out procedures and recording results for field and laboratory work related to Eastern Oysters.
Responsibilities:
Collect and analyze field and laboratory data.
Attend project meetings.
Maintain accurate data records.
Summarize project results.
Prepare presentations, reports and manuscripts for submission to granting agencies and scientific journals.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Associate degree in Biology or related environmental science field.
One (1) year of experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Field and/or Laboratory experience with Eastern Oyster (Crassostrea virginica) and other benthic invertebrates.
Invertebrate and Plankton Identification and Classification.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly data management in Excel.
Ability to travel as needed and work extended/ nonstandard hours for the collection of samples and other data.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in biology or related environmental science field.
Proficient in ArcGIS, SPSS, and SAS.
Excellent organizational skills.
Field experience including operation of trucks and boats, transect sampling, and water quality monitoring.
Current valid scuba diving certification.
