Medical Billing/Collections Specialist
Requirements:

- High School Diploma
- Preference to 1-year experience.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare and submit physician claims to insurance carriers either electronically or by hard copy billing.
- Secure needed medical documentation required or requested by insurances.
- Follow up with insurance carriers on unpaid or denied claims until claims are paid or an only self-pay balance remains.
- Work with physicians or medical record staff to ensure that correct diagnoses/procedures are reported to insurance carriers.
- Answer incoming billing calls, assist patients with questions regarding bills, collect payments and direct calls appropriately.
- Maintain strict confidentiality related to all patients’ private health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Verify insurance benefits for scheduled patients.
- Perform other duties as assigned to help assist Billing Team.
Minimum Job Requirements:
The following qualifications are the minimum necessary to adequately perform this job. However, any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Experience with billing software preferred.
- Prior insurance verification experience preferred.
- Exceptional verbal skills to communicate with patients.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills with Team.
- Working knowledge of basic computer system software. Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Problem-solving, critical thinking, and cognitive reasoning skills.
- Attention to detail and follow-through.
- Data entry skills: keyboarding, accuracy, and speed.
- The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position.
Physical Requirements:
Clear telephone voice. Hearing acuity that allows for understanding over the telephone. Sitting for 7-8 hours per day, some standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently during working hours. Visual abilities and manual dexterity that allows the use of PC’s for extended periods of time. Work in well-lighted, well-ventilated areas, as well as throughout the facility. Be subjected to frequent interruptions. Requires eye-hand coordination
