Description

Scope of Position

The Training and Development Manager is responsible for creating, developing, implementing, and assess the effectiveness of policies and programs to enhance the overall skills and career development of all associates.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years related experience in a hotel environment or training and development experience in a large complex/luxury property.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong writing and editing abilities and outstanding presentation skills, including ability to professionally speak in public and in front of groups.
  • Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized with task management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Prior Marriott International Experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop training and development policies that meet the needs of all staff members and management team at the property level.
  • Monitor and track all property training. Be the gate keeper for training attendance ensuring all departments follow yearly training.
  • Develop and distribute training calendar.
  • Create materials for training as needed.
  • Implement and present corporate wide training and development programs and initiatives.
  • Update records and produce reports accordingly.
  • Conduct yearly property assessment and make recommendations with regards to programs needed for training and development of Associates.
  • Ensure compliance with all training required by both state and federal laws (i.e., alcohol and food certifications, respectful workplace training, etc.).
  • Work with Executive Committee Members, Department Heads, Leaders, and JW Ambassadors (departmental trainers) to ensure On the Job Training, and New Hire training programs are successful.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with all staff members and any external customer.
  • Undertake special projects and assignments.
  • Conduct monthly department trainers meeting; as well as constant communication via e-mail, and/or one-on-one sessions.
  • Support the Employee Opinion Survey by conducting monthly meetings to ensure departments are promoting a positive work environment.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as required by management.

Education

  • 2-year degree from an accredited university or related professional area; certified trainer.

OR

  • 4-year bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate in the English language. Second language is a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends and able to perform multiple tasks.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and work independently.
  • Experience using computers and software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Physical Requirements

  • On a continuous basis, sit or stand at a desk for long periods of time in front of a computer screen.
  • Intermittently twist to reach equipment or supplies surrounding desk.
  • Use the telephone and computer keyboard daily.
  • Must be physically fit to lift, pull, and push items up to 50 pounds.
  • Also requires standing/walking/reaching and bending throughout shift.
