Tampa Electric Company is Hiring a Manager, Substation Engineering Near Tampa, FL

Title:Manager, Substation EngineeringCompany: Tampa Electric CompanyState and City: Florida- Tampa
Shift: 8 Hr. X 5 Days

The Manager of Substation Engineering is responsible for the design, engineering and site maintenance and civil site construction of all substation facilities of the company. Responsible for selection, training, development and supervision of the staff necessary to carry out the functions of the department in a quality and cost effective manner. This position also has the responsibility for technical, maintenance and system reliability support for Substation Operations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. The selection, training, development, and supervision of staff necessary for the functioning of the department in a quality and cost effective manner. Provide leadership in articulating and communicating to all employees the company's position on critical issues. 20%
  2. Responsible for the Substation Capital Specific budget of approximately $10M per year. Develop ideas to modernize existing equipment and schemes, submit a budget, compose Project Scope Approval documents and gain necessary internal approvals. Communicate necessary work to Operations, Telecommunications and other departments, as needed, to achieve budget, scope and schedule success. Manage projects throughout their lifecycle and submit schedule and cost forecasts monthly. 20%
  3. Direct the selection and oversight of site maintenance and civil site construction contractors. Average $2.5M per year. 10%
  4. Direct the development of substation design policies, procedures and standards. Lead the standards and specification review team consisting of substation engineering and operations personnel. 10%
  5. Direct the selection of all major substation material, equipment and engineering contractors. Lead the vendor evaluation program for substation material and equipment. 10%
  6. Evaluate the performance of substation facilities to detect and correct inadequacies and inefficiencies, evaluate new technologies and direct their implementation as appropriate to Electric Delivery. 10%
  7. Assist Substation Operations and other departments with problems related to substation facilities as necessary. Direct the engineering workforce to quickly engineer replacements for failed equipment and develop projects for proactive replacement of potential equipment failures. 10%
  8. Review, direct, and approve land acquisition for proposed substation sites and represent the department in all matters associated with substation land rights. Evaluate current environmental rules and regulations associated with substation facilities in conjunction with Environmental Services Department. 10%

Indirect Supervision:Engineers,Substation Technicians, CAD Drafters

Key External: Contractors, Customers, Vendors, Consultants, Other Utilities, Government and/or Regulatory Agencies, Civic Associations, Industry Associations

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required:Bachelor's degree in engineering Electrical, Civil, Industrial, Mechanical or Chemical) from an ABET accredited college of engineering

Preferred: Preferred:Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering

Preferred: Licenses/Certificatios

Preferred:Professional Engineering License in the State of Florida

Experience:

Required:Required:Minimum of 7 years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required. Related experience consists of: experience in the electrical utility field with a working knowledge of transmission, substation and distribution systems.

Preferred:Preferred:Minimum of 5 years of direct work experience in Substation Engineering or Operations

Supervisory Supervisory Experience:

Required:Required:Minimum of 2 years of direct supervisory experience

Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required:Required:Good leadership, interpersonal and communication skills; The ability to effectively motivate individuals to meet organizational goals and personal development needs; Basic knowledge of Electric Delivery systems, engineering principals, materials and their applications; Knowledge of work management systems, project management, budgeting and forecasting of costs; Ability to organize, lead and resolve technical and process related problems.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is mostly in a normal office environment but can spend an hour or more on any given day in the field at substations or in the stores yard to gather data, work with crews, etc. Some overtime and/or weekend work may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS

Working in substations requires walking on uneven surfaces (granite rock, limestone roadways and grass areas).
