TA Aerospace is Hiring a R&D Manager - Chemist Near Valencia, CA

The R&D Manager has responsibility for the management of the R&D department and to lead the development of elastomer materials and technology to maintain the company’s competitive advantage with respect to cutting edge elastomer applications in its product offerings.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Keeps current in pertinent technology to lead the company in future advancements for our markets as well as adjacent markets.
  • Plan independent research on assigned projects under general direction leading to development of breakthrough materials.
  • Assigns and oversees work of department team members to complete projects in a cost effective and timely fashion.
  • Design and conduct experiments using systematic approach following scientific methodology. Continually improve these techniques to better the design of experiments. Evaluate the test data, maintain good records and organize test results in tabular or graphical format.
  • Direct and co-ordinate activities of lab technicians, research assistants or chemists as required.
  • Develops action plans with milestones and deliverables identified for project progress monitoring.
  • Provides a motivating environment for maximizing the team’s contributions and personal development consistent with business needs.
  • Works closely with Sales and Marketing to recommend new elastomer products or enhancement to the properties of current products.
  • Responds to and supports sort-term customer needs on design and specification issues.
  • Provides a focal point for technical expertise with our customers and suppliers.
  • Provides information on risk and return scenarios to support decision making process.
  • Supports current production activity with oversight to quality provisions, operating issues, problem solving and trouble shooting.
  • Up to 20% travel required
Qualifications, Education & Previous Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or materials sciences with 7-10 years R&D or Engineering Experience.
  • Prefer Masters or Ph.D. in Chemistry with silicone polymers and elastomer as a desired fields of expertise.
  • 5-7 years of experience working in instrumental analysis, specifically DSC,TGA, GC/MS.
  • Demonstrated success in developing innovative solutions to challenging problems.
  • Proven abilities to lead Research and Development projects.
  • Demonstrated technical skills and judgment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to work and think both in a team environment and independently.
  • Professional level understanding, interpretation, and application of theory, concepts and knowledge in specialized areas.
  • In-depth understanding of the technology involved in the product, as well as the needs of the market.
  • Able to work with others effectively and able to communicate effectively with others who have a less technical background.
  • Good business sense in understanding profit/loss contributions and return on investment concepts.
  • Experience with product and business strategy development.
  • Experience working in a business with a strong focus on Continuous Improvement/ Lean/Six Sigma.
