Synchrony Financial is Hiring a Remote AVP, Product Owner (Product Incubation)

Job Description:

Role Summary/Purpose:

Synchrony’s Product Incubation team is focused on contributing to business growth by driving new product creation to address unmet consumer needs and executing on product incubation for the next generation of consumer financial technology. 

We are seeking an experienced Agile Product Owner to lead the concept development, requirements, and launch of new products and capabilities.

The ideal candidate will be adept at quickly understanding a variety of technologies and platforms, possess a strong digital product and project management background and a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget. 

This candidate will also play a key role in the Synchrony Experience Center in the NYC Hub – maintaining the content, developing knowledge of Innovation and Incubation initiatives, leading tours, and facilitating innovation sessions.

This position will report to the VP, Incubation Lead.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Oversight and leadership of the wing-to-wing product development cycle including requirements, design, build, test, launch, and performance metrics.

  • Partner with multiple internal and external sources to gather market intelligence and user VOC and translate the results into detailed product requirements.

  • Lead projects in Agile development methodologies - define story acceptance criteria, manage and prioritize the team backlog, collaborate with the Scrum Master, architects, developers and other subject matter experts and contribute to the overall team vision and product launch.

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify and prioritize new product features and enhancements and the pathway to market delivery.

  • Work with internal and external partners to create screen prototypes / wireframes, gather feedback and adjust to optimize performance.

  • Partner with Analytics team to closely monitor, analyze and optimize usage patterns.

  • Coordinate and lead user acceptance testing (UAT) for various releases.

  • Support and aid in any Legal/Compliance items related to the product/capability.

  • Effectively communicate project updates across diverse audiences within and outside of the Agile team.

  • Assist in leading the Innovation Space in the NYC Experience Center – this will include developing and updating the product demo content, helping with client visits and facilitating innovation sessions.

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree. In lieu of degree; high school diploma/GED or 7 years of project management experience
  • 3 years of progressive work experience to include:
    • experience participating in projects using Agile methodology (SAFe/Non SAFe)
    • SAFe POPM trained or certified
    • Project management experience with a strong record of delivering on time and across functions.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of Scrum and Scrum tools (i.e. JIRA).

  • Possess a start-up mentality and comfort level to make decisions and pivot quickly.

  • Clear thinker who can seek out and identify key data themes and distill the findings into actionable strategies, tactics, and solutions.

  • Ability to define minimal viable product to pilot quickly, validate assumptions and gain feedback.

  • Strong comfort for working in ambiguity and defining a path forward where one may not yet exist. Skilled in getting relevant stakeholders to see the vision and win prioritization.

  • Confident, autonomous decision-maker with demonstrated business prioritization experience, conflict-resolution skills, and ability to thrive in a cross-functional and virtual environment.

  • Experience in the banking / credit card industry.

  • Track record of creative problem solving and ability to thrive in a cross-functional and virtual environment.

  • High energy, self-motivated, with strong communication skills (verbal and written).

Grade/Level: 11

The salary range for this position is 90,000.00 - 155,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
