Symetra has awesome opportunity to join our Technology and Operations organization as a Senior Technical Program Manager!

About the role

As a Senior Technical Program Manager, you have an important role at Symetra's Technology and Operations organization focused on Workforce Benefits business solutions. You are responsible for leading large and complex technical projects from inception to completion. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills to manage cross-functional teams and ensure that project goals are met within the constraints of budget, time, engineering capacity and company standards.

Key responsibilities include defining technical requirements, identifying solutions, and establishing delivery rhythm. You must be adept at balancing business needs with technical constraints and overseeing all aspects of a project.

Your skillset includes proficiency in current web and cloud technologies, operations, code reviews, source control management, and software development lifecycle practices. You should be capable of building processes, managing technical relations with partner teams, and leading quality assurance processes. Additionally, you should have experience in managing a portfolio of integration projects and be able to track and report on defined metrics for development and delivery.

On a regular basis, you will be working closely with business, operations, IT, product management, and UX design teams, and translate concepts into engineering tasks. Your superb communication skills will help bring alignment with partner teams and present program status effectively.

What you will do
  • Drive cloud-native solution development in the complex insurance business domain.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product owners, and UX designers to deliver detailed solutions to complex problems while monitoring schedules and engineering capacity.
  • Create detailed specifications and break down features and user stories for software engineering teams.
  • Manage relationships between cross-functional teams and drive integrations.
  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies; lead when required.

Compensation

Salary Range: $121,300 - $202,200 plus eligibility for annual bonus program.

Who you are
  • Bachelor's or master's degree or equivalent experience in computer science or related field
  • 5 years of program management experience, including coordination with multiple teams
  • Ability to develop detailed technical specifications
  • Experience with Cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and familiarity with modern development stacks (e.g., nodeJS, ReactJS/AngularJS, SQL/NoSQL/Hadoop/PowerBI/Tableau)
  • While coding is not required, troubleshooting technical issues is valued
  • Proven track record of delivering complex technology services in the Cloud
  • Strong organizational and project tracking abilities, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to succeed in an entrepreneurial environment and manage competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to build productive working relationships and influence teams
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to senior management
  • Experience managing large multi-functional projects
  • Meticulous with a demonstrated ability to self-motivate and follow through on projects
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and present data sets supporting project goals and initiatives
