Super 7 Girls is Hiring a Social Media Specialist (Volunteer Position) Near Chicago, IL

Are you able to create compelling content that leaves your audience in awe and incredibly excited about the subject matter? Are you able to figure out the best way to promote and market a particular product or organization to a targeted audience online with ease? Well, let's see how well you can really do this! You have 2 minutes to figure out the best way to market the importance of girls having super powers and the impact this can have on communities in a social media post. Of course, we will not know how well you did on this quick exercise unless you apply for this amazing opportunity. Beyond that quick quiz, if you answered yes to any of those questions it clearly means that one of your superpowers is social media management and we are looking for you! In this new role, you will be helping to curate our online presence via social media. This enhanced presence would allow us to connect with more program participants and their families, volunteers, fundraisers, and potential advocates for the work that we are doing through our programing.

If you are in Chicago that's great! If not, that's okay too. We are looking for people who are passionate about helping the girls in our program! At Super 7 Girls, you will be working with a collaborative team who all have the same goal of helping as many girls as possible have access to their superpowers so they can change the world. We need team members who can help us build our social media presence so together, we can fulfill the mission of Super 7 Girls. If your interest has been piqued, this may be a wonderful volunteer opportunity for you and it will no doubt be as rewarding as it is impactful. 

Super 7 Girls would not function without the help of volunteers. We are still a young organization and we are still building our organizational capacity. We are working hard to build our organizational visibility so that we have the ability to help more girls have super powers. As we grow, we need people like you - social media gurus who can help ensure that we can have an even bigger impact on the girls in our program and the overall community. We need you. We need your brilliance, your drive, your expertise and your passion. It goes without saying that, your support in this role would help build the foundation we need to reach new programmatic heights. About Super 7 Girls

Super 7 Girls mission is simple - We help girls from under-resourced communities of color have superpowers (you read that right!). Now, when we talk about superpowers we don’t mean that in the metaphysical sense. When we discuss superpowers we are discussing a certain mindset. By helping girls build various skill sets that they need, they will feel emboldened, confident, smarter and…yep, you got it…superpowered. They will know that there is nothing that they are unable to conquer and that no challenge is too great. 

So, you must be curious?!? How does one go about giving superpowers? We know that superpowers grow from consistent access to curriculum that focuses on education, health, financial literacy, policy, arts, leadership development, and global engagement and this consistent access helps the girls have a deep understanding of how their increased knowledge means a stronger ability to take on life’s challenges. We also know that their increased knowledge base disrupts the cycle of generational poverty and transforms the life outcomes and trajectories of the girls in our program. In essence, their superpowers enhance their overall well-being and helps them dream new dreams.

As you can see, we have big, hairy, audacious goals and we need our staff to be bold and to act as role models of this superpower mindset – visionary, courageous, confident, determined and reflective. Our environment is fast paced and dynamic and providing academic support can be hard work. You can definitely expect days in which there’s a gargantuan amount of work to get done in a limited amount of hours. With that said, what makes our culture amazing is that everyone is willing to help with any task because we are all working towards the goal of helping these girls be amazing superpowered individuals.

Desired Experience & Education

  • Possesses knowledge and experience in the tenets of traditional marketing.
  • Marketing degree is welcomed but not required with relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrates creativity and documented immersion in social media.
  • Proficient in content marketing theory and application.
  • Experience sourcing and managing content development and publishing.
  • Exhibits the ability to jump from the creative side of marketing to analytical side, able to demonstrate why their ideas are analytically sound.
  • Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.
  • Maintains excellent writing and language skills.
  • Enjoys a working knowledge of the blogging ecosystem relevant to the company’s field.
  • Displays ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written, audio and video format.
  • Exceeds at building and maintaining sales relationships, online and off.
  • Practices superior time management.
  • Is a team player with the confidence to take the lead and guide other employees when necessary. (ie: content development, creation and editing of content, and online reputation management).
  • Makes evident good technical understanding and can pick up new tools quickly.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of principles of SEO including keyword research.
  • Is proficient in and/or certified in Google Analytics.
  • Possesses functional knowledge and/or personal experience with WordPress CMS (self-hosted).
  • Demonstrates winning Social Customer Service techniques such as empathy, patience, advocacy and conflict resolution.
  • Possesses great ability to identify potential negative or crisis situation and apply conflict resolution principles to mitigate issues.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Manage social media marketing campaigns and day-to-day activities including:
    • Develop relevant content topics to reach the company’s target customers.
    • Create, curate, and manage all published content (images, video, written and audio/podcast).
    • Monitor, listen and respond to users in a “Social” way while cultivating leads and sales.
    • Conduct online advocacy and open a stream for cross-promotions.
    • Develop and expand community and/or influencer outreach efforts.
    • Oversee design,
      • Social media graphics for all profiles: Facebook cover, profile pic, thumbnails, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
      • Ad design
      • Landing pages
      • Website design
    • Design, create and manage promotions and social ad campaigns, being sure to integrate with company’s overall marketing campaign plan and channels. This can equate to the Social Media Manager coordinating with various vendors when outsourcing Facebook Ads (for example).
    • Create and manage an online review funnel for building online reviewsand reputation. Monitor online reviews and respond to each review timely and with care.
    • Analyze key metrics and tweak strategy as needed.
    • Compile reports for management showing results (ROI).
  • Become an advocate for the company in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate.
  • Demonstrate ability to map out a comprehensive marketing plan. Drive strategies that are proven by testing and metrics.
  • Develop organizational elements in order to implement a proactive process for capturing happy, loyal customer online reviews.
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design and strategy.
  • Implement ongoing education to remain highly effective.
  • Identify threats and opportunities in user-generated content surrounding the company. Report notable threats to appropriate management.
  • Analyze campaigns and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into recommendations and plans for revising social media, content marketing, SEO and social advertising campaigns.
  • Monitor effective benchmarks (Best Practices) for measuring the impact of social media campaigns. Analyze, review, and report on effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximize results.

Position Specifics

  • This position is fully remote and it is an unpaid volunteer opportunity. This position requires 8-10 hours a week.
