JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Instructional Coach fulfills the mission of Summit Academy Management (SAM) by assisting teachers and administrators in curriculum and instruction. He/she ensures that materials are being implemented correctly and that staff and students are receiving instruction based upon best practices in assessment and instruction. He/she works with Curriculum Administrator to ensure that data driven instruction is being practiced.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in the implementation of the adopted curricular program
  • Works closely with the classroom teachers to implement effective instructional strategies
  • Implements a staff development program to include: modeling lessons, assisting with lesson planning, observations, providing feedback to teachers on classroom lessons and allowing teachers to observe in other classrooms and maintain documentation and records of all staff development activities and workshops
  • Establishes good interpersonal relationships with the school staff and administration
  • Supports teachers with task analysis needed to pinpoint breakdowns in student learning
  • Acts as Internal Facilitator of the Ohio Improvement Process in the school, directing collaborative conversations around the 5-step improvement process
  • Use instructional background to clearly connect data to instructional decision-making
  • Consults with teachers providing expertise and knowledge for developing and implementing data plans, protocols and processes
  • Provides information to principal to improve academic achievement
  • Serves as a mentor to administrators, teachers and instructional support staff, providing insight and understanding of the importance, value and application of data

This position regularly requires extended hours and the ability to perform work outside of what is recognized as normal operating hours.

Travel

Travel is required as appropriate to attend professional development and statewide meetings.

Required Education and Experience

  • A BA/BS degree from an accredited college/university, MA/MS degree is preferred
  • Experience in working with diverse learner
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with teachers in a collaborative role
  • Successful experience in providing staff development in both large and small groups and mentoring to teachers
  • Ability to analyze formal and informal data from reading and writing assessments
