About the role
The Senior Vice President, Environmental Health Management is responsible the BBC portfolio approach to Environmental Policy, Practice and Risk Management. This includes the development, implementation, management and oversight of the company's policies, procedures and practices relating to environmental risks; including all regulatory compliance in connection with mandates promulgated by EPA, OSHA, and other federal and state regulatory agencies. This position is responsible for the accurate, timely and high quality of the company's service delivery of work order and facility execution involving environmental impacted scopes. This position is also responsible for managing the company's overall risk profile relating to Environmental issues with an emphasis on assurance, and risk mitigation. These duties span across the Balfour Beatty US Investments portfolio of property management, development, and construction projects.
What you'll be doing
  • Collaborate with internal operation and business development staff to provide technical support and expert guidance on Environmental issues, various reports, and due diligence in connection with pursuit of new business opportunities. Provide comprehensive evaluation to diagnose problems related to environmental concerns, determine causation, and recommend remedial measures related to building systems and maintenance with input from operations staff. Facilitate management of reported environmental issues, working with internal teams to: preclude overreaction, counter misinformation develop appropriate plan of action and avert further escalation
  • Assist in producing environmental training programs for companywide implementation and ensure these programs and tactics are being executed at all levels and sites.
  • Assist in developing, publishing, and maintaining corporate Environmental Management Policies
  • Review Project Environmental Management Plans for Operations, Project and Legal team for contractual requirements with Public Private Ventures. Prepare and update Environmental Management Plans for new and existing projects .
  • Ensurethe Environmental and Health organization supports the company's Ethics and Compliance program and operates at the highest levels of integrity.
  • Lead project efforts related to sustainable development that focus on asset resilience,
Who we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental health required, Juris Doctorate or advanced degree preferred
  • Experienced in working with Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and relates software systems and programs.
  • Minimum of 15 years relevant working experience
  • Statutes, Laws & Regulations - Working knowledge of applicable standards promulgated by EPA, OSHA and regulatory authorities sanctioned to oversee these industries.
  • Planning/organizing - Ability to organize work, set priorities, work independently and make productive use of time. Must also be able to instill planning and organizational traits to a subordinate level through management techniques and delegation.
  • Adaptability - Ability to accept changes in the work environment manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events.
  • Integrity - Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Communication and Contact - Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company. Must be able to effectively communicate to subordinate staff with clear directives, institute follow-up communication mechanisms and address/correct issues arising from miscommunication of goals/directives. Employee must frequently provide a high level of customer service to field management.
  • Relationships with Others: Ability to work effectively and relates well with others including superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company. The employee exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working relationships
  • Subject matter expertise in lead, asbestos, mold, radon, indoor air quality, drinking water, groundwater and soil quality standards, solid and hazardous waste management, and stormwater management and permitting.
  • Possession of a valid state issues driver's license and safe driving record are required
Typical Physical Demands: Regularly use hands to manipulate tools, equipment, supplies, and office equipment. Frequently stand, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, and stoop. Sit and stand to do clerical work. Regularly lift and move equipment and supplies up to 75 lbs.
