Sumitomo shi Cryogenics Of America Inc is Hiring a Senior Director of Operations Near Santa Clara, CA

The Operations Manager understands the complex nature of service, warehousing, process flow optimization and the front-line employees that support it. He/she works from concept to service support and customer relationships and is directly responsible for and actively involved in all service, warehousing and process activities, is visible on the shop floor and provides daily direction on all priorities. He/she interacts with multiple levels within our customers’ organizations, partners with SCAI Planning and Supply Chain Management as well as Sumitomo Heavy Industries (SHI) to meet service and profitability goals. Must be able to liaison with management, internal departments and vendors/suppliers as well as external clients and third party providers to troubleshoot problems and provide innovative solutions. Managerial responsibility for the front office operations as well. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Understand and communicate customer expectations throughout the Operations Department, and ensures that all products meet customer specifications, standards, and requirements.
  • Review customer contracts, drawings, files for requirements and work instructions.
  • Enforce quality of service of product such as: dimensional & cosmetic accuracy.
  • Develop cost reduction techniques and continuous improvement methods; develop and maintain a six sigma lean process within the Operations Department.
  • Assist in resolving product nonconformance and participate in corrective action resolution.
  • Monitor job hours for efficiency and make appropriate changes to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Train and assists others in correcting or preventing deficiencies in the quality of their workmanship. Respond to customer inquiries or delivery schedules.
  • Enforce completeness of required job-related documentation.
  • Ensure machinists have appropriate supplies to perform duties.
  • Furnish weekly quality reports to leadership providing visibility and recommendations on improving manufactured Products and reducing errors.
  • Assist Supply Chain Management in the selection and monitoring of suppliers.
  • Engage in root-cause analysis; develops and implements action plans to address production issues.
  • Assists the quality department with the creation of quality control standards and ISO documentation.
  • Identify capacity constraints, monitors Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and potential process improvement projects.
  • Establish clear and measurable expectations of performance and review commitments to ensure goals are achieved; complete first line leader performance appraisals and coaches employees to develop and execute growth and development plans
  • Create a safety first culture in order to achieve zero lost time accidents. Responsible for the Environmental, Health and Safety programs and compliance with all permits and plans.
  • Assist in developing, monitoring, and ensuring established O&M goals are achieved.
  • Review and provide operational inputs to maintenance and engineering projects.
  • Advise engineering when there is a possible need to change specifications on products.
  • Provide input to the development of product strategy and research and development of new and emerging products.
  • Follow all company policies and expectations and behave in a manner that promotes the Company’s values and positively effects morale.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Engineering or Industrial Engineering Degree Highly Preferred.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience in a service and/or production environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Management role service and/or production environment.
  • Experience in the manufacturing of refrigeration or cryogenic equipment preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstrated prior experience successfully completing the primary duties listed above, specifically with success solving complex problems, demonstrating innovation in continuous improvement projects, and a high degree of professionalism and accountability.
  • Established project management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrates accountability for business successes and challenges; ability to make tough decisions and is results driven.
  • Strong Communication Skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude; proven experience in establishing, monitoring and adherence with multi-million-dollar budgets.
  • Proven ability to influence and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Knowledgeable of and promotes highest standards of safety and environmental compliance.
  • Experience in driving results and improving function, team or area productivity
  • Demonstrated capability in change management

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has direct and indirect reports and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within Manufacturing Operations

Travel

  • This position involves occasional business travel (domestic and global). Annual Travel is estimated at 25%

Physical Demands 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, typing and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Specific hand motions required by this job include typing, lifting, griping and pulling.

Work Environment 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to a variety of different gases, extreme temperatures and moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
