Due to our continued growth, we are seeking a motivated and growth-oriented person to join our team as the Human Resources Manager basedat our Columbus, MN headquarters. This position is an exempt, full-time, hybrid role, report to the Vice President of People Success & Safety. Overnight and out-state travel may be required from time to time.

The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day HR functions, supporting our one hundred employees, ensuring HR foundational excellence is in place while creating an exceptional employee experience. Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Talent Acquisition: Recruit top talent to join the Street Smart team. Assist hiring managers with the recruitment and hiring process. Conduct initial phone screens for open roles. Create new paths to source high quality candidates.
  • Employee Data Management (HRIS) & Payroll: Maintain both hard copy and digital employee documentation. Ensure all data in the payroll system and HRIS is accurate and up to date. Partner with HRIS provider to implement additional functionality within the system. Process payroll and ensure tax and reporting compliance. Provide training and support to employees and managers on HRIS usage.
  • HR Reporting & Compliance: Ensure all required filings are completed accurately and on time. Maintain reporting and compliance calendar for all federal requirements, as well as the states we have employees (currently 18). Stay informed about changes in employment laws and regulations and ensure company compliance.
  • Learning & Development: Onboard new employees. Assist in developing learning paths for employees and leaders utilizing Paycom and external learning sources. Facilitate training sessions.
  • Total Rewards Management: Administer the compensation and benefits programs. Plan and conduct open enrollment. Provide educational platforms for employees to learn about how to maximize the benefits that Street Smart offers. Serve as a liaison between employees and benefit providers to address inquiries and resolve issues.
  • HR Program Development: Partner with the VP of People Success and Safety to develop new programs and processes to accelerate employee development and ensure Street Smart has the processes and resources in place to sustain top talent.
  • Employee Relations: Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and managers, addressing inquiries and concerns with professionalism. Resolve employee relations issues in accordance with company policies and legal requirements. Conduct investigations and recommend correct actions as necessary.
  • Safety: Partner with managers to enhance the safety environment at Street Smart. Assist with workers’ compensation claims and maintain all documentation related to workplace injuries and incidents. Assist in the facilitation of the Safety Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Ideal candidates will have

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of human resources generalist experience required.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of employment and labor law.
  • Advanced experience with an HRIS (preferably Paycom) and with processing payroll.
  • Computer skills and proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office products and database management
  • Ability to be self-directed and highly motivated with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent customer communications, interaction, and presentation skills
  • Requires the possession of a valid state driver’s license.
