Stolt-Nielsen Limited is Hiring a Port Operation Manager Near Houston, TX

Are you as excited as we are when we talk about the distribution of bulk liquids operated by the world’s largest and most sophisticated fleet of chemical and parcel tankers, with over 70 deep-sea ships?

We are currently looking for a Port Operations Manager to join our team!

What you will be doing
He/she will be for the effective management of all aspects of Operations, port agents and other local contractors’ performance to achieve an efficient department, capable of rendering full operational support for ships trading in the assigned area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct Port Operations for owned and chartered ships to ensure safe and economic operations including performance evaluation and support development to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate and monitor agents’ performance to ensure efficient agency services are provided. 
  • Evaluate and monitor subcontractor performance as directed by Deepsea Operations Manager
  • Monitor and report on latest local:
    • Regulatory development and requirements
    • Port information and developments
    • Changes in conditions and restrictions
  • Provide operational expertise and assistance for the various divisions of Stolt, recommend best practices to improve efficiency and comply with any changing regulations.
  • Administer operational standards and systems for assigned area to ensure organization has got a updated overview of local condition, restrictions and possibilities. 
  • Monitor port information and development to propose improvements to facilities and processes. Provide operational expertise and assistance for the various divisions of Stolt and always look for opportunities and propose improvements to facilities and procedures to ensure continuous improvement, and more efficient overall operations in Port.
  • Maintain relationships with terminals, customers, local Coast Guard or Harbor Police, Port Authorities or other governmental bodies and other local stakeholders to ensure a good working relationship. 
  • Assist in communicating port activities relative to customers cargos handled within area of responsibility. 
  • Support the business with operational assistance pertaining to area of responsibility, this includes commercial activities at the request of Chartering and reasonable assistance at customer meetings.
  • Represents the company in various settings, e.g. Port authority interaction, Port forum working groups, local Industry associations/ governmental bodies/ regional governmental forums/ customer meetings, etc. and report developments to management

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent relevant experience.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as Operation Manager or as Port Operations Manager, or 10 years’ experience in relevant field as a senior operations manager. 
  • Experienced leader who possesses the ability to motivate staff and inspire teamwork.

  • Strong ability to build and leverage your network, internally as well as externally.
  • Excellent communication skills – ability to communicate effectively with internal and external parties and with all levels. 
  • Demonstrated ability to drive cultural change while improving efficiencies and processes. 
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs.
  • Excellent industry knowledge, particularly of the ports, terminals, vendors, authorities etc.in assigned area. 
  • Good knowledge of charter parties, chemical cargoes, chemical tanker cargo operations, chemical surveying, regulations in
  • Chemical marine industry, customer requirements, ship operations, port regulatory and quality improvement process.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
